Big Sky Champs (or Eastern Game Thread)

If anyone on here likes to bitch about Pflu's practice methods... please tell me how basketball players at this level can't hardly draw iron on 3-balls. If we're going to blame Pflu for the play on the field... ahem. Looks like it's mutual on the basketball court. Good thing the Big Sky sucks this year, or this team would be fighting for a playoff spot.

Worst loss in 5 years...

EWU improves to 9 and 19. Congrats to them and see you in a week or so in Missoula-

UNC is draining perimeter shots when it counts. It looks like I will be watching the BSC tournament in person. I would prefer to be watching/listening to it live from Missoula though.

Tinkle sounds like he thought the game was taken from us. Any thoughts from those that visually saw it.

Well, the Griz missed 18 three point shots...and shot 50% from the rest of the field. Apparently, our basketball sense was taken from us! Hope we find it soon-

The GRIZ only have only themselves to blame for this loss. Shooting like they did, they were lucky to even be in this game. It is a shame we we have such a good team, and one major weakness keeps it from achieving from truly great things.

I felt the officiating was very questionable, perhaps we did get homered a bit but that is not unusual in all of college or pro ball. Having said that we should not have allowed ourselves to be in a position to lose this one. EWU is not a very good good BB team but you knew Dean would show up at some point. Not to take anything away from EWU but we played just plain horrible tonight. Give them credit for playing more like they wanted it than we did. Have to feel sorry for Cherry, he really wanted this one. BQ also played tough but when we had no outside shooters he was going to get hammered inside.
I have always been a fan of DS but the last five or so games he is not shooting with any confidence and it rolls over into his defense effort. I know this is not the time to try different lineups but I almost think Hutch would have been more of a force on the rebounding side of things. He has fresh legs and he takes up a lot of room underneath the basket.
I guess it's easy to criticize after the fact but this team needs to get back on track. I still think we can win the conference title regardless of where it is held.
Go Griz...............we are with you all the way.

Well, they replayed the big slam the guy had over Cherry ... and it sure looked to me like Cherry had established position, and didn't move.

But the bottom line: For much of the game, the Griz looked liked they were just going through the motions ... with a few quick, but short spurts of activity. They let EWU hang around and start believing (correctly) that they could win. Then there was the totally crappy shooting! (Last stat I saw, they were 3-for-19 on treys.) But the most telling stat: The Griz, with a huge advantage in front-line size, got out-rebounded 33-22. :wtf: [Edit: rechecked the box, and the margin was 34-22.] That, more than anything else, shows a lack of effort.

So no, I do not particularly think the game was "taken away from them" -- they gave it away with a really piss-poor showing.

Alot of our 3 point attempts were basically uncontested and most of those shots weren't really that close to going in.
