big sky basketball attendance

it's a common theme on this board: what's happened to the good ole days of montana basketball? we've beaten ourselves up looking for answers: football has killed the basketball spirit; we've moved the students; the team isn't winning; we're not seeing the opposing stars we did back in the days of idaho, boise state and evada; the women are more exciting.

and, sure enough, attendance is down an average of 1000 from last year.

so what? so this: per today's missoulian, we still lead the big sky in attendance!

our lady griz have a sensational week, convincingly beating two of the best teams in the conference, weber state and idaho state. and what does it do to our poll rating?

we drop two spots in the usa today poll. (or was it one.)

that's the respect the big sky conference gets.

I think the 12 seed was more a product of our non-conference wins (Stanford, Oral Roberts, etc.) and the prestige of our head coach, than the Big Sky conference. If I remember correctly, our RPI actually dropped last year when we made it to conference play.

If the Big Sky gets no respect, how did UM get a 12th seed in the tournament last year? I thought that was a very nice seed.

They do NOT seed conferences. Only the teams. Montana received some respect last year. But, Big Sky doesn't receive any respect when it comes to Television or polls.

Who cares about polls. Polls are NOT considered in seeding teams in the NCAA. Example, Lady Griz have been dropping in RPI while playing the Big Sky teams, but the predicted seed for the Lady Giz by a couple of experts have Lady Griz either a 9th seed or 10th seed. If it is a ninth seed, than it will be equal to the seed in 1997, and some other seasons earlier in the 90s.

MT mens bball doesn't get any respect b/c it doesn't deserve any. I mean we aren't a florida, or some other good team. We are a BSC team, face it, they aren't that great. Lack of special talent and dynamic players contribute to that. Football on the other hand.... we have dynamic players and several with special talent....
