Big East unsure of Villanova

FWIW, the Big East averaged 45,000 in attendance in 2010. I can see how playing in a 18,000 stadium could look bad for the conference.
The WAC averaged 22,500, while the 5 remaining schools from the moving averaged 16,000.

It's almost as if the Big East is two conferences - the basketball conference and the football conference - and they don't see eye to eye.

I see the Big East's point. PPL park is not a football stadium, It's a soccer complex and a small venue. That's not a big deal in FCS, where the championship game is played in a soccer complex, but in FBS world the venue seems small time. The BCS crowd will never go for that.

The Big East needs schools that are going to help them get better in the BCS ratings, an FCS move-up will not help them. TCU was a good pick up for them. They need teams that are consistently pretty good and that will help them get a more lucrative tv deal. They should be looking at schools like Houston or Central Florida, and I hear they are.

I agree. After giving Temple the axe a couple years ago, it surprised me that they were considering Villanova. Its a good comparison from the standpoint that they are both in that Philadelphia market. If you look at Temple, their football facilities and game day venue are far superior to Novas. I just don't understand with the lack of infrastructure and lack of investment in the football program that they would consider them. I know they have had some strong recent success, but if their attendance remains below 20,000 it is strange they are be considered by a BCS level conference. Seems like subtraction by addition to me unless Nova has a short term plan to substantially upgrad their facilities and generate more interest from their fan base (who all care way more about basketball and even baseball).
