Big Cliff Appreciation Thread

I would like to take a moment to thank Clifton McDowell for his accomplishments and what he brought to the team. Although we failed to bring home the championship, we would not even be there if it wasn’t for Cliff. He took the reigns after a bitter NAU loss for a team that was picked to finish 4th in the Big Sky

See below for some of his stats:

After transferring in then splitting time at the beginning of the season, Clifton McDowell took over as Montana’s starter and delivered. He threw for 1,861 yards & 13 touchdowns, ran for 751 yards & nine touchdowns & even had a 24 yard reception.

Dude showed up to Missoula last summer, and was starting in a National Championship game six months later. Imagine if you’d have suggested that back in July!

It’s an amazing story if you really think about it.

Time will tell if he comes back for his final year of eligibility, but imagine his moxie with another year in the system.

As I recall, he mentioned the possibility of an actual National Championship when he came here. After getting that close, I think he'll stay for another try. Griz will have some holes to fill, but the core is there.

Thanks, Cliff! We are not in the championship game without you! Hope you do it again next year!

Go Cliff! Go Griz!

Big thanks to Cliff, and every person on the team, on the staff, and in the athletic department. This was an absolutely wonderful year for Griz football, and I cannot wait to see what happens next. To everyone involved in the program this year, thank you.

Went up against what might have been the greatest defense in FCS history, and if Gillman makes it into the endzone or Fontes doesn't fumble... well, who knows. Cliff had a legendary season for us.

Cliff, if you read this, just know that my son has a signed ball from Tommy Mellott and Sean Chambers after catching touchdown passes from the both of them, but he's adamant that you're his favorite player

I gotta wonder how good he can be with a full off season and more time in the program. His development this year was like nothing I ever remember seeing in 35 years as a Griz fan. It was awesome to watch can't wait for next year.

Good thread. I agree. He can a long way. He will keep improving. He threw a lot of passes yesterday, with pressure at times, and didn’t throw a real pick.

The passing game was frustrating to watch because while he did have some errant passes, there were a number that he put on the money and the receivers just simply dropped. And there were a few passes that would have been caught If not for what looked like pass interference that was never called.

Could you imagine if Cliff didn't come here? I doubt we would have went to the NC. As soon as he was named starter, the team was like a whole different animal. He brought swagger and confidence to this team and made them a legit contender. Without him we very well could have ended up 6th in conf play.

He really put the team on his back when he took over. word on the street is he was banged up all through playoffs, which makes sense as to what we all saw with him not being able to run it like he did earlier in season.

Big Cliff got better every week, ended up being one of the best (if not the best) quarterbacks in the Big Sky conference in his first season here. I cant wait to see what he can do next year with all of his receivers back and Cole Grossman.

Well, he DID suggest that...in fact, it was in his commitment tweet... fell one game short of his promise.
