The best an only way for this to work for UM...
If the "Big 5" break into a super division... Top 60-80 Teams.
and the new division has a playoff system. (Wyoming, Wash State, Utah State, etc)
Say goodbye to the Southern Utah's and Idaho States of the world. :thumb:
People have been talking about this for what, 10-15 years now. I don't think it's ever happening and I think Fullerton has got this all wrong. The TV money that has been fueling conference realignment is a bubble that is starting to burst. ESPN laid off 300 people 6 months ago, is down 7 million subscribers from 2013 and is rumored to be $100 million short of meeting their commitments. Fox Sports just went through a second round of layoffs in the past year. The internet, chord cutters, competition, are all cutting into the big bucks the TV networks having been dishing out. Conference USA (a G5 conference) is negotiating a TV deal with ESPN and CBS that is less money than their previous deal, this is going to be a trend.
If anything, I think the President from Idaho has this right. The BCS is not sustainable for the majority of schools in the G5 conferences. The P5 conferences are not going to break off, they get everything they want right now. My guess is the G5 conferences are going to continue to scramble in their delusions of grandeur to get a piece of the shrinking TV money pie, but more and more schools are going to say "screw this," and follow Idaho's path and drop down to FCS. Idaho is going to be a test case for many others, if they can make the transition back down work, there isn't ever going to be a middle ground between FCS and BCS.
