Big 12 Expansion and the Griz

Montana has trouble staying above .500 in one of the weakest FCS conferences and you thinks it's a good idea to move up to the MWC? LOL

I love how people fail to realize that if the Griz ever moved up they would lose fans for 2 reasons.....one we wouldn't win and 2 FCS fans wouldn't go to FBS games anymore.

Ya for sure...just like nobody would ever want to grab seats to a hit Broadway musical when they could go way, waaay off Broadway to Ekalaka and hear some dufus play Up With Montana Boys on tissue paper and comb... :coffee:

Remember Mr. Silvertipper - you really wanted UM to move to the WAC.

If they had the Griz may have gotten in the MWC over SJSU, or USU. Maybe I should be glad they didn't. :D

Subtle similes clearly float over the heads of some in the crowd.

You can be sure Royce will make the right decision and do nothing. By the way, did he get his bonus check?

Isn't doing nothing because we're just little ol' Montana exactly what the stay-small group on this board is proposing?

At least Kent and Engstrom have the fortitude to do research, have discussions with the MWC and do their due diligence in consideration of a move. The ultimate answer may well be "do nothing". But personally, I prefer that approach to the one taken by some on here, which is to simply say it will never work because growth is scary.

And your supporting evidence, sir :?:

The best an only way for this to work for UM...

If the "Big 5" break into a super division... Top 60-80 Teams.

and the new division has a playoff system. (Wyoming, Wash State, Utah State, etc)

Say goodbye to the Southern Utah's and Idaho States of the world. :thumb:

People have been talking about this for what, 10-15 years now. I don't think it's ever happening and I think Fullerton has got this all wrong. The TV money that has been fueling conference realignment is a bubble that is starting to burst. ESPN laid off 300 people 6 months ago, is down 7 million subscribers from 2013 and is rumored to be $100 million short of meeting their commitments. Fox Sports just went through a second round of layoffs in the past year. The internet, chord cutters, competition, are all cutting into the big bucks the TV networks having been dishing out. Conference USA (a G5 conference) is negotiating a TV deal with ESPN and CBS that is less money than their previous deal, this is going to be a trend.
If anything, I think the President from Idaho has this right. The BCS is not sustainable for the majority of schools in the G5 conferences. The P5 conferences are not going to break off, they get everything they want right now. My guess is the G5 conferences are going to continue to scramble in their delusions of grandeur to get a piece of the shrinking TV money pie, but more and more schools are going to say "screw this," and follow Idaho's path and drop down to FCS. Idaho is going to be a test case for many others, if they can make the transition back down work, there isn't ever going to be a middle ground between FCS and BCS.

This is where I line up too. I don't know how many FBS schools will drop down, but Idaho may be showing the way for that. I keep hearing the middle level group mentioned, but I have never noticed anything more than speculation.

Are not aware that Hogan, O'Day and Dennison did this too?

I've seen many posts saying a move-up will never work, but I don't recall people saying it will never work and no one in the administration should spend any time even thinking about it or asking any questions? Can you cite some of those posts? Maybe I just didn't notice.

To the WAC, you mean? Yes they did, and determined it didn't make sense.

The rest of your post makes no sense.

Football speaking, I think the NCAA should allow G5 conference schools the ability to lower the number of scholarships. Have it be a range from say 65 minimum and 70 max. That said the NCAA could allow current FCS schools do the same, 65 min and 70 max.

Once that is done complete a broad change of conference affiliations to be more regional. Say have 4 regions, Northwest, Southwest, Southeast and Northeast with divisions in each region. Each region woukd send 4 teams from each region to have a 16 team playoff.

I know there is a lot to work through on an idea like this. However you could then have Schools not "P5" in say Montana, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Wyoming Colorado and maybe even the Dakotas be in a region together.

Having teams more regionalized I think woukd gain more fan fare and pride in your programs.

Heck if the Big12 expands adding Conneticut would seem ridiculous.

The AD's and President have been keeping their eyes open on possible move-ups, changes, realignments, etc. for at least 15 years. It wasn't limited to looking at the WAC. I know this because I talked to Hogan and O'Day many times about the subject, and Dennison on occasion. By the way, I talked to Hogan recently on a trip to Atlanta. He's a consultant in Florida and doing well. Had just had breakfast with another Griz fan a few days earlier.

We agree, then.

Glad to hear Wayne's doing well.

Amazing. There is no athletic program in the MWC that is profitable. Substantial tax subsidies are needed to sustain each school's athletic program. Boise State is no exception, especially when it comes to Idaho's allocation for coaching salaries in particular.

The U has enough problems paying bills and there ain't no way our sagacious, competent legislative body will pony up the kind of money MWC states do. Nor should they.

You FBS advocates are cray cray right now.

So did Boise State, but that didn't stop them from moving forward.

#flatearthers

You may want to rethink that. BSU loss to YSU in the 1994 National Championship game just before moving up. In 95 they were 7-4. However their first year in FBS they were 2-10.

Who cares the FBS is all shit and no shineola..........
