Montana selection - John Friesz.

"Throughout NFL history, only two QBs have been born in Montana: Friesz and Ryan Leaf, both former Chargers. The journeyman wins out over the enormous draft bust in Leaf, who posted a career passer rating of 50.0 during his four tumultuous seasons in the league."

Blasphemy. DD hands down is the best QB born in the Treasure State. :thumb:

DD will always be #1 for most Montanans. Leaf disowned the state. Friesz left for the arch enemy at the time, so he is disqualified.

Friesz may have been born in Montana, but he was like 10 when he moved to Coeur d'Alene. Had he stayed in Montana, it may have been different.

since it was based on what state the QB was born in....not sure what your complaint is...

CFL....Bobby O'Billivich, if that counts.

It counts to me. Prolly the best athlete ever at U of M (or MSU as it was then) He was a great QB but also defensive back, BB guard and I think it was short stop for the baseball team. Was all conference in all three sports More importantly he used to go with my sister. I was devastated when they broke up (my sis wasn't)

His brother Jack was a better football player although he was a linebacker.....

It was stated Friesz left for our arch enemy at the time which he did except was living in Idaho and had played HS ball in Coeur d'Alene. He did play little Griz here though....................

He did. I think San Diego

They were preseason games. Dave never got the chance in the regular season. I remember him doing really well in a preseason game against the 49ers. The problem was they drafted Brees and had Flutie. Went to Miami for a bit also. The NFL really missed the boat on Dicky. He could for sure have played in the NFL!

I believe size was the issue. Even back then, the NFL was about the measurables....Friesz was big from what I remember. He actually lasted a while as a back up for the Chargers.
