I think its the hesitation for FBS programs to gamble on FCS coaches because for every 1 that has worked out, you have 2 or 3 that have failed and the last EWU coach to make the jump had terrible success at the FBS level.

Baldwin deserves a shot and I think he will get one eventually, but teams are really hesitant to pull the trigger on these FCS coaches...Heck, as good as Bohl was at NDSU, he had to settle for Wyoming..

NAIA and Div II rarely transition well to FCS, and FCS rarely to FBS. No matter how many "contract extensions." Sophisticated programs don't take the risk. Desperate programs send the signal when they do.

I don't know all the reasons... but when he was a finalist for Nevada, EWU quickly singed him to a 5 YEAR contract extension... something the regents in Montana would never agree to.

Well, if they "singed" him, unless he had a high pain threshhold, he had little choice.

That same head coach who is 5-1 vs. U of Montana since 2012 whose team has won the Big Sky conference 4 times since the Grizzlies last won. Yeah....he sucks. :roll:

Nevada did the right thing, Baldwin would make a good OC, he is just not a very good HC.

He just inked a new five-year deal with Eastern…

And you're right, he's not a very good coach, he's a great coach…

How in the hell has he not been picked off by a larger school yet?? Im legit curious...

It seems like every year hes in the running for a few positions but the deal never gets done...

Do you have any more detail on why this could be???

This may surprise egrizzers judging by the way Cheney and EWU are spoken about around here, but there is a sense that CBB really loves where he's at. Obviously if the right opportunity comes around he's crazy not to toss his hat in the ring, but I think he's being picky and judicious about his career moves.

that is exactly the same thing NDSU fans used to say about Bohl - he loves NDSU and will never leave - then he took the Wyoming job.

I was told that it's not the university or even the football program that keeps Baldwin in Cheney. It's Zips. Another source told me that he was a lock for the Nevada job but turned it down after some disappointing fries at the Reno In-N-Out.
