BCS/FBS dropdown CB's

You weren't happy with Reynard? I thought he played very well at times. Not 100% but pretty darn good. He was on the field a lot.

makes sense. scoring more points than the other team has proven VERY effective in terms of winning games. I think you guys are really on to something! ;)
 
Are there really any true corners that come right out of high school? I think it is a skill that is developed within the 1st year of college ball and then perfected by Sr year. I believe there are true defensive players from High schools that can adapt to the position, but not a true corner.

I think he played hard for the team and had a role as a back up and special teams guy so he had a purpose but yeah just saying BCS transfer doesn't always mean you are getting an impact player.

Got to give you credit for this post, dayday. It is baffling that MSU has recruited such good corners, the ones you mentioned, plus the Pac 12 transfers the past couple years from U of Washington and U of Colorado... and UM signs Cowans late (with him hoping late that UM would offer) and Egbo (who is a great ATH, but who's #1 position is RB, and he's probably a better Safety than a CB).

If UM is to get back to the top of the BSC and FCS, they NEED to DRAMATICALLY pick up their level of athletes in the WHOLE SECONDARY. Crow and Banks are a start, at Safety. Corner needs to some serious attention going forward. I like Cowans and Egbo, but this position needs to be a priority going forward. Corner has been a weakness at UM for some time. We cannot lose here. Or we lose.

Yep. I forgot about that and then there was the guy who played wideout at Stanford and seems to have done well in the NFL transitioning to corner. What is his name. Sherman? Hmmm.
 
people make light of corner backs, however, corner backs are to the defense what o-lineman are to the offense.....takes time to develop their skill set and even more time to work as a unit......we have been weak at corner back the last couple years and this next year is going to be interesting based on their performance last year imo....
 
Our problems at corner last year started with opposing teams going to max protection and slowing down pass rush. 5 offensive lineman, Hback/tight end, and running back providing protection to give quarterback time to find one of 3 receivers. Any corner or safety put man to man is going to lose eventually if the QB is given enough time. Defensive coordinator did not start to develop any other strategy till late in the year. Too late to have cohesive zone coverage. If you are going to go man, you better get to the QB.

Appears to be done deal with him at corner We have 3 solid corner prospects that will be redshirt freshman unless they move one to safety. Do you think with our small sophomore/junior DB classes now...they might be looking to move sophomore Eaton to safety? I just don't see any other prospects in those WR classes with the same potential at corner/safety that isn't established to stay at WR. I remember him being committed to Air Force as a safety before we offered him to play WR.
 
EWU also recruited some good corners and have a lot of depth at that position. I'm not buying into the its too hard to recruit excuse. it will be interesting to see how many yards Gubrud throws for against the Griz DB's in the fourth game of the season.

Nash I think will be a big asset in the return game next year whether he's a DB or WR. He allows us to only have to use JLM in critical situations in the return game.
