Battle of the Northerns

Damn.. NAU doesn't even get a good look really.... UNC wins 73-70. I really hope that crew doesn't ref tomorrows game.. Gotta feel bad for NAUs players... They kept right up with UNC+Refs through the 15 minute stretch in the 2nd half where every call seemed to go UNCs way.

Agreed on the refs. They were awful as the second half went on.

Nothing will be worse than the refs trying to decide the championship if it's a similar crew. It was terrible for both teams at times but NAU got the short end far more often

UNC made 32 of 35 from the free throw line. NAU was 14-17. Fouls were surprisingly equal in number. About 26 to 24.

I'm normally down for a few days when NAU's season ends. I may be still be pissed off tomorrow and dealing with a nervous tick for a few days this time around.

Crappy way for NAU's senior's season to end. There's talk that the NIT/CBI/whatever the other tournament is may be insterested. I'll believe it when I see it.

I admittedly have a hard time rooting for the Griz football team due to some unpleasantries with Griz football fans in the past. While I enjoy it when NAU beats you in hoops, I don't hold the same dislike for Griz hoops. Gonna have to give the Griz my support tomorrow night. Til next season, Griz hoops faithful.

I think the guy in the white shirt on the lower right sideline is probably pushing the limits for fans yelling at the officials. It's like he's the coach...

That's Dick Monfort, the owner of the Colorado Rockies. He's kinda like UNC's Jack Nicholson, but with more money.

Nice, it's going to be fun watching that guy cry tonight.

Crying for joy? Probably. :thumb:

I have to say that if I were an official, that guy would get an accidental knee to the nether region as I was running down the sideline on a break-out.

Then I'd T-up UNC for him being on the floor (which I'm amazed hasn't happened yet).

The free throws were disparate largely because UNC was fouled while shooting and quite often it was on a 3 point shot. Devon Beitzel should have been called for 2 or 3 offensive fouls for getting a player up in the air and then jumping into him where no contact existed before the shot. The defensive player has the right to come straight down if he is not making contact before he goes up and in my mind on at least 3 occasions he wasn't. No referee in the Big Sky is going to make that call and if that is the way it is going to be called both teams should be able to take advantage of it. In this case NCU was the more aggressive team.

This is taking nothing away from NCU and Devon Beitzel. He is one great player that I wished we had and as a team NCU plays together very well. Either team should be a great representative to the NCAA Tournament. I just hope it is us.

That call ALWAYS goes against the defense at every level of basketball. That's why defenders from junior high on up are taught not to leave their feet. It's also why smart players, Beitzel and Chauncey Billups are the first two that come to mind, utilize that move to get to the line.
