Bama all over ND

Silvertip said:
Brent and Herbie make a great team...obviously ABC/ESPN agree since they always get the AAA games... plus you know Musberger will always be super prepared.

(But then I'm the only person I know who actually likes fruitcake)

Herbie is a lot of fun and Mushy could make a little Griz match up seem like a national focus game...they do make it interesting..

I don't know for sure what I saw tonight. My impression of the game was an exhibition contest between a college football team and an NFL franchise. With a team that looked like it could draft an NFL squad (11 players), perhaps 4 or 5 in the first round, and a coach making $5 million plus another $200 k for the NC, was it really a college football game? What is college football anymore? Anyone who thinks any of the runner ups could give Alabama a game are chewing loco weed. I said after the SEC title game that was THE national championship. SEC, NFL, what the hell. Give me the FCS playoffs and a team with a 2.92 GPA any day.

I disagree

Bama is no NFL franchise.
I think ND was just over-rated. The Miami Dolphins on their worst day would crush Bama by 50+.

And your comment about the runner ups not being able to give Bama a game...
Texas A&M already gave Alabama a pretty good game and Oregon, in my opinion, would beat the living shit out of Bama.

Easy there Killer,

I can't wait for a playoff at the FBS level like most on this board, but neither A&M or Oregon would have beat Bama in the championship. Bama would have loved to play A&M again just like they loved to play LSU again last year and you know exactly what Saban and his coaches/team did to LSU.
Bama learned a lot in their loss to A&M and weren't playing to their strength in the loss - Run, Run, Run. Their OC called a crap game (sound familiar) and threw the ball first, not the other way around. A good example of that is 1st and goal on the 6 yard line (playing A&M) with over a minute to play and they throw the ball for an intersception. They had time enough to run 4 run plays to get 6 yards and A&M wouldn't have stopped them in 4 run plays.

Oregon is a run first. They wouldn't have been able to run against Bama and would have been forced to throw and been one sided. A one sided O isn't going to beat Bama. Oregon would have been a much better game than ND (which in my opinion shouldn't have been playing in the championship) but Oregon didn't beat Stanford D so what makes you think they could beat Bama D. Oregon sure as hell wouldn't have been able to stop Bama's run and that would have kept Oregon's O off the field. Bama had a very big and way too powerful of a O line. The kind we Griz fans DREAM ABOUT. You don't make it to the top 3 of the last 4 years if you're not good...and Bama is that good. (I believe NDSU at the FCS level is similar at this point in their program.)

Summay of this year at the FBS level:
Bama -> ND -> Standford -> Oregon. Just the way it worked this year.

If you disagree, then tell Oregon to beat Stanford so that we don't have to speculate. Also, tell A&M to beat Florida and LSU (which by the way both lost their bowl games.)

All I can say is Go Griz and Please, Please build this type of program!!

A&M beat bama at home not only did they best them.......they really kicked their ass. A&M got better as the year went on and would have treated bama the same way they did KState.
I also think Oregon would whip bamas ass

There is no way bama should have been in the NC game. They lost a game and it was later in the season so it should count more. Its a good thing all you and I can do is speculate...........thats one of the reasons why the FBS is an inferior product

Alpha,

Completely agree on the playoff system in FBS (can't wait till the day) and is LONG overdue. Can't beat the FCS playoffs and love the games. Completely disagree on A&M beating them again and Oregon beating Bama this season. Wouldn't happen.

In the loss to A&M, Bama was coming off a close emotional win at LSU the previous week on a team that wanted revenge for the 21-0 BCS game. Bama's OC for some reason decided to pass first and not run first in that game.
A&M Game:
Yeldon 10 carries
Lacy 16 carries
McCarron - 34 passes

Compared to the Georgia Game:
Yeldon 25 carries
Lacey 20 carries
McCarron - 21 passes

When Bama plays what they know best (run first), they win.I personally would have loved to see A&M (or Oregon) play Bama in the championship. It would have been a hell of a lot better game, but I believe Bama would have done to A&M what they did to LSU last year. (Saban with 40 days to plan.)

Oregon, well, stupid loss to Stanford at the worst possible time in the season. It seems they had an off night like Bama did against A&M? Stanford kicks a field goal with seconds to win and Bama throws a pick in the end zone with seconds to take the loss. If Oregon got another shot at Stanford do you think they would win? I think so. If Bama got another shot at A&M do you think they would win? I think so.

The current Bowl system sucks and here we are...left only to debate the wins and losses in the regular season.

I'd like to see Oregon play Bama next year. Might happen....that would be a great game to watch!!

I just look forward to the GRIZ getting back to the playoffs next season. :thumb:

Go Griz!

These are the facts.

Nobody has to like it.

Nobody would have beat Bama in the chipper. Too big and physical on both the offensive and defensive fronts, and that is ultimately where every game is won and lost. I would be surprised if the Tide don't repeat, but playing in the SEC is brutal. Definitely the toughest conference in college football.

Wrong and they never go on the road to play anyone. Over hyped and over rated.

When the playoff system starts they might win one more NC but when they get to 8 or more teams the days of the SEC being set up to "dominate" are over.

They are just like every other conference they usually have 2 good teams a third so so team and a lot of shitbags bringing up the rear.

When is the last time that Bama, LSU or Florida traveled to USC, Oregon or Washington? How about Michigan Nebraska or Penn St?

Yeah thats what I thought they never leave home.

The Pac 10 (12 now) champ would rarely, if ever, win the SEC. USC had a couple teams that probably would have, but thats not the rule but the exception. Washington?????? Please.

A wide open spread vs Bama would have been more entertaining than this game. Nick will win in a power NFL type game over a similar conservative (ND) system given his stable of great athletes who are in his system because they want to play on Sunday.

The NFL love affair with the zone read is dying as RG has reconstructive knee surgery and his future is tenative.

The spread is fun to watch to be sure but do NFL teams want to expose their most valuable asset (see Russel Wilson) to safeties drilling them from long range. Pete Carrol for sure as he sees his career as more important than RWs career.

Will be interesting how it plays out, like the Luck/RG3 arguement. Love both these guys and not a fan of either team, want to see great play continue and it seems Shanahan took the short term view recently. In any case 8 months till college football, Appy next year rocks, will be there.

I don't see where Bama played any Pac 10/Pac 12 teams recently, but based on the power team they've had I don't think they would have had much a problem slaughtering any PAC 12 team (with Oregon) being the only team to give them a game. Hell, Notre Dame beat USC and Stanford this year.

I do see where Bama played Penn State home and home in 2010/2011. They also played Mich at Cowboy Stadium this season.

2010 Home
Bama 24 / Penn State 3

2011 At Penn State
Bama 27 / Penn State 11

2012 (Cowboy Stadium)
Bama 41 / Mich 14
