Ash to Idaho?

So, Ash/Walsh leave the Big Sigh only to lead Idaho back to the Big Sigh after a couple years as an FBS punching bag? Why do that?

Not only salary, but one has to consider the pension benefits. If, as many defined benefit programs are, the Idaho pension would be based on the amount of one's salary in the final five years of employment, making $250,000 for five seasons vs. $125,000 at MSU is not "only" an addditional half mil in salary. It would also mean MUCH larger pension payouts in retirement. Believe me, enough zeros would be worth a few losses.

What does Walsh make at Poly ? Keep in mind that $150,000 is the base salary for Ash and he gets $20,000 for radio and tv shows plus incentives for APR, BSC titles etc., and the QB club also kicks in extra money(that probably goes to asst's). The base salary for the interim Idaho coach is $165,000 which happens to be what Akey was making a few years ago.

I get the pay and bennies difference, but that's not likely to last if Idaho retreats to FCS is it? What Idaho is going to need is someone skilled at managing a tremendous downsizing. If Idaho retreats to FCS, many of its full ride players are going to have to go on partial scholarship. Idaho coaches pay will likely be cut. And the Vandals will suffer a new level of humiliation by getting regularly defeated by schools a lot of their players probably looked down on. Seriously, how many Idaho athletes console themselves by reasoning that at least they're not FCS?

if what you say does come to pass, the one thing to remember is Ash's age, didn't someone say he is in his 60's ?

Is Idaho still headed to the Big Sigh for all sports but football? That's probably a good indicator of where Vandal football is headed.

I can't see Ash leaving MSU for Idaho -- too many good things for him there and Idaho is a cess-pool but maybe with a little cash.

Can't see Petrino at UM -- too much bagge after what we've been thru -- BUT, if Van Diest wants to leave again, Bobby might could get the Carroll job, unless his old man left some stuff in the closet.

And maybe Kramer gets Idaho this time --- no, no, no.. Bobby gets Idaho, has Kramer join him as asst HC and DC, because Bobby runs offense!

Petrino not coming to UM isn't because of his baggage, it's because he will be interviewing for head coaching jobs at schools like Kentucky, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Auburn. Worst case scenario he gets hired by a good mid-major program like Louisiana Tech after their coach gets a better job.

This thread is beginning to sound alot like Harry Fritz's old lecture on "What Drove Merriweather Lewis Crazy" Let's see how many of you remember what that was?

STD that traveled to the head.

ESPN radio today mentioned Petrino as possible coach at Kentucky.

Maybe they'll offer him a new motorcycle and a grad student.

If they offered that to me I'd probably take the job.

Well you probably wouldn't do much worse than any coach there the last 60 years. I don't think they've beat Tennessee since before the Cubs last won the series. My Grandfather played at UK and he is rolling over in his grave probably at the thought of UK hiring Petrino (being the former coach of Louisville). Maybe this is UK's way of getting back at Louisville for hiring Pitino?

Say what you will, the word is he's high on Montana and is pushing pretty hard to get a coaching gig in Missoula. I'm not saying he's your guy or anything else, other than I'm hearing he's pressing pretty hard.

My intelligence is saying there are a lot of shake-ups about to happen in the NW that will be sparked if Chip Kelly leaves Oregon to go to the NFL.
