Article on Game - Hero Sports

Too bad Herder isn’t on here. A Herder Translator would be beneficial.

Know any second graders with a hicky North Dakota accent who have a free hour or so?

Sam Herder
Sam’s coverage of the FCS began in 2012 as the sports editor and eventual editor-in-chief of NDSU’s The Spectrum. After graduating in 2015, he spent three years in the newspaper and magazine industry while starting his work for HERO Sports in the fall of 2016 as a freelancer. In May 2018, he joined the website full time as the Senior FCS Analyst.

Not much of a resume, but he would be about 30 years old. That means he has been out of fourth grade a scant 20 years. He's developing his writing ability. Give him time to develop, y'know, like a QB.

Seriously, I know nothing about him or his writing and whatever else he does.

Damn, there is that 7 D1 wins again and how many games they need to win in the last 6.

Validation!

Almost every Griz fan admits that 7 DI wins is probably necessary. No validation there for you.

On Oct. 1, you said: "The Griz need to win 4 of the last 6 to be on the bubble." 8-3 is not on the bubble, as I said then. Now you seem to be agreeing with Herder that 7 DI wins will get the Griz in. What happened to your bubble argument? No validation there; in fact, shown to be wrong.

Again, I have contacted 3 people who have been chair of the selection committee. Regarding the D2 question. Two recent ones, and one back some years. None of them have confirmed your and Herder's D2 assertion, including last year's chair, Truax. He referred me to another person. I have not yet heard from that person. If you think the answer is so clear, why don't these people just confirm that D2 wins are completely ignored or refer me to a publication?

The rules clearly don't say or support your assertion that D2 wins are ignored. Also, I believe D2 games are factored into the SRS. They are considered in polls. They certainly part of "overall record". I assume they are in some SOS calculations. Obviously, D2 games are in fact considered in at least some aspects of the playoff selection criteria.

I mean, if you’re interested in that, feel free to look it up, but I’m not. I’m just arguing that is isn’t an official rule per the NCAA itself. Which is what I’ll go by. I’m not arguing that the Griz would get in with a 7-4 record (6 D1 wins), but that per the NCAA that doesn’t automatically disqualify them.

They're are written and unwritten rules. Welcome to becoming an adult.

What's your source for saying there are unwritten rules for playoff selection?

Can unwritten rules be contrary to what the written rules say? I.e., "Overall Record". How do you interpret the criterion "Overall Record"? I don't see D2.even mentioned in any of the playoff selection criteria. Do you?

If everyone knows D2 wins are ignored, why wouldn't any of 3 chairs of the election committee just say that? It must not be obvious to them.

Yes! Very good!! Now, can you tell the doctors your name? Take your time; we know it's difficult.

Wow. Very good, finally a post of yours that isn't a obsessive comment about the coaches at montana state

Oh, the drunken felons who should have been immediately fired but instead raped Montana taxpayers for an extension and a raise? Yeah, we really should talk more about that, you’re correct. It’s such a despicable look for msdUi so I understand why you guys are burying it, but it’s the sports story of the year and needs to be treated as such.

Almost all 7-4 UM teams have been selected for the playoffs.
Almost all? 1981 (7-3), 1990, 1991, 2010, 2017....

The playoffs weren't expanded to 24 until 2014. That changed things significantly. There were only 8 teams in the playoffs in 1981. Then to 12 teams. Then to 16 teams.
