Going the long way may be easier driving but it isn't exactly easy. It will likely be longer than 8 hours. Especially if it is closed.

Speed Limit is 80 all the way with the exception of a few miles around Butte, Idaho Falls and Pocatello. 597 miles divided by 75 MPH average is 7.96. I guarantee you I can drive that in under 8 if the roads are good. If you can't you're not a normal Montana driver, or you're a girl![]()

Yes but it has closed at times due to bad winter conditions and when it is icy anybody driving 75 mph is stupid.
Good move, given that the weather was good and you had the time. The freeway route is longer, but so much faster that you do save some time. But the freeway route is just what you'd expect .. borrring.Buttegrizzle said:...
Drove yesterday from Butte. Roads dry the whole way. Took I15 to Dubois then cut off west on the two lanes through Arco. Scenic, no traffic, easy.
Well, driving by C of the M is still better than the freeway, by and large.putter said:What, none of you like driving though craters of the moon?
