Arrogant, complacent, stagnant

Griz in Tokyo

BH has always been arrogant, but a winning coach can get away with being an arrogant ass, I suppose. BH has always been the smartest man in the room. Just ask him. However, the act has worn more than thin. BH’s arrogance is not only hurting the team on the field, but it is hurting the team in recruiting and players buying into the program. The Griz are losing the best athletes in Montana to the Cats, often plucked right out of UM’s backyard. I can understand BH’s arrogance in his first stint with the Griz. He did nothing but win. From 2003 to 2009 the Griz won or shared the conference title and made deep runs in the playoffs. The second iteration of BH has not won or shared a conference title. The best finish has been a tie for third place in 2019 and 2021. Playoff runs have been one-and-done every year.

BH has become complacent, and why not? The stadium is always packed. There is no pressure to make real changes in the program from anyone that matters. The AD seems to have checked out. Is there anyone putting any pressure on BH to show improvement? It doesn’t appear so. BH is the 12th highest-paid employee at UM. He’s got his bag and he’s coasting along.

What offense is this team running? It is lacking in creativity and has become predictable, stagnant, and worst of all, boring. Why is our best offensive player, Bergen, not touching the ball 15 times a game? The game seems to have passed BH and his sycophantic offensive coaches by.

I don’t know the team goals for each year, but I am sure they are to win the conference, beat the Cats, and make the playoffs. Well, 0 conference wins. 1 win over the Cats. With an embarrassing blowout loss last year, and most likely another blowout coming this year. The Griz have made the playoffs, but haven’t made a deep run. And let’s be honest, the Griz don’t make the playoffs without the expansion of teams added to the bracket.

I realize that NAU has always been a tough place for the Griz to play. A loss there isn’t always a complete surprise, but this year it was an embarrassment. NAU is not a good team. But it appears the Griz are not a good team either. Yeah, the Griz were 3-0 going into the NAU game, but it was a weak 3-0. If you understand the game of college football, you can not argue with that fact.

There need to be some massive changes in the culture of the program and they will only come with new blood. Steven Stoll said it best. You can never go home again.

You're points are way too good. Wait for hoopsfan to call you a no nothing who never played the game when he comes back to egriz in 2025

Well, neither did BH, so it appears we are in the same boat when it comes to qualifications to coach football.

Hauck is here to enjoy retirement with his buds. That’s why he won’t fire folks like Germer, even when they grossly underperform. He’s lost his fire and he’s phoning it in. Now that he’s done coaching his boy, it’s gonna get even worse. We shoulda known when he pissed down his leg in the press conference before cat griz in 2019. RTD is never gonna happen. Especially under Hauck

I think BH is trying. I think he’s fully committed to getting the gris back to the top of the heap. He loves his team. These are all things I hear when he gives press conferences.

What happened at his 2019 presser?

He talked at length about how the rivalry had gotten out of hand with how people were treating the other side. Which came across as really disingenuous given his history of digging at everything MSU his whole career. Also had an element of waving a white flag.

Well 2019 and 2022 performances were certainly more than “waving” the white flag…
