Well we could just issue fines for those who leave. Structure it like a speeding ticket;

Missing first 3 minutes of 3rd Qt. $25
Missing first 5 minutes of 3rd Qt. $45
Missing first 10 minutes of 3rd... $100
Not returning to seat (ala So Dakota St playoff) $500 and loss of Griz gear.

Fines go to Grizzly Athletics so after about 3 years they'll have funds to build damn near anything they wish.
I like this a lot.

I think we should just fine people $30 each time they biatch about people not getting back to their seats in a timely fashion after halftime... :thumb:

Could be, I appear to be in the bull pasture lately.

Could it be that this "halftime tradition" of spending it at tailgates instead of in the stands dates back to the days when the Griz were perennial floormats in football? I attended UM in the late 50s and late 60s, when Griz football was a joke. I could understand that then a halftime tailgate was a salve for losing another game. But, now? Maybe this is a "tradition" that is no longer relevant.

WTF?
WTF? I say to you, WTF? You're in left field, no, not even in the stadium, when it comes to supporting UM and the kids. It's all about you, isn't it?

I am almost always back in my seat for the second half....how about you?

People attend the games for all sorts of great reasons. For some, it's a social event and the tailgates are a huge part of it. Just because you enjoy tailgating and socializing during halftime doesn't mean you're a degenerate alcoholic who doesn't love the Griz. The University has done a great job creating a wonderful atmosphere that packs the stadium week after week. Removing the option of stepping outside, tailgating, eating your own food, socializing, and whatever else you want would have a negative impact on that atmosphere in my opinion.

I have a feeling Davey Deuce is in his seat the whole game.

I think that the worst thing the University could do is to allow beer sales at the game. I own a bar and think this would be a horrible policy. Part of the joy of college games is that you don't have nearly as many drunk morons acting like drunk morons in the stands. Pro games are brutal anymore. People seem to care more about getting plastered than the game itself. Now I know that there are plenty of people that are well oiled at Griz games. Tons of people have bottles that they have snuck in, flasks, beers in their coats. Anyone that wants to get ripped is going to do so..I don't think the University needs to help accelerate the process anymore than it already does by allowing tailgating at halftime.

I don't get why people have such a hard time getting back to their seats before the second half starts. I think it is a bit strange that the priority is schnapps over the game..So i choose to hang out and watch the action. To each their own I suppose. To me the sale of beer would be a much bigger issue if it ever came up.

You got that right. Support of the halftime band and show is as much a part of the UM experience as the game. It's about UM, not you. UM doesn't interest you, you're not a UM fan. You're only a UM football fan.

You don't care about the rest of the school, its programs, its kids, what it's doing to enhance your attendance at the game? I question how many of you, questioning me, are UM graduates. It's shameful, the exodus of you people from the stands during halftime. Shameful.

Listen, sir. Don't ever question my support for The University of Montana. I certainly hope the "you" references in the above post were general and not specific. Further, for the record, I don't measure the same with whether someone wants to be a bit late for the 3Q. It's a stupid debate regarding a constant that rages on for reasons beyond my comprehension.

Tailgating is what we do and tailgating we will continue to do! Cry, Bitch and moan, this is Griz Country, get a life !

Been a season ticket holder for about 10 years. Don't think the crowd makes that much of a difference, or shouldn't. Plus it's not like the players know the halftime crowd won't be back. Certainly, at times, the NEZ is loud enough to cause penalties, but less than we want. Plus you gotta cater to the paying customers. Most of them, I would guess, wouldn't like the idea. Less attendance, etc. I probably wouldn't make the 10 hours of drive time in a weekend, every weekend, without a little tailgate time.

Being said, I should probably do a better job at pounding those beers faster at halftime and get back to my seats. I did this last weekend, because that game was insane.

You would seriously stop coming to games if you couldn't race back out to your cooler at halftime and chug two beers in 45 seconds and then race back to your seat???

I spend a TON of money to get back to one Griz game a year. The last thing I want to do is miss part of the game just to have another f***[*] beer and then fight the crowds back into the stadium.

Didn't say that. I go to all the home games, except maybe one when I'm doing a fundraiser thing. I just have to drive a ton every weekend when we are at home. Sometimes I go to the away games that are close (Pocatello,Cheney, etc.) Part of the fun for me is the tailgate. I get that it's important to be back in time for the bigger games. But when we are crushing a D2 team, do you think I could spend a few more minutes hanging with Missoula friends at the tailgate?

So much appreciated your reporting from the airport prior to the game. Laughing my ass off. Good stuff.

We have a stadium packed to the virtual rafters of the dome that D2 wants and people are worried about how it looks on TV when people don't return to their seats at the start of the 2nd half? Amazing! ....
I didn't start this thread. You people brag about the amazing "atmosphere" of a WaGriz football game, but then ignore a half-empty stadium while the TV cameras show a half-filled stadium, well into the 3d quarter? Oh, I get it, you're there to also visit w/ old friends, drink beer, etc. Many in this thread have already defined the argument: Are you there for the game or for your own entertainment, self over the game? What kind of fan are you?

Whom are you supporting? Yourself or the team, band, cheerleaders, and the entire show? Others have said, have your tailgates before & after the game, not during halftime. This is the University of Montana, after all. Show your support by keeping your butt in your seat from kickoff to final whistle. UM & the kids try to produce good pregame and halftime shows. Support them by at least being there for the effort. It's about UM, not you.

Did the grizzlies get good when halftime tailgates were banned? Seems the "amazing atmosphere" was still built despite the halftime vacancy. Plus I support the UM financially in other ways.

Who doesn't like cheerleaders?

How about if we made Dunphy's the exclusive supplier at the games? Does that grease your wheel?

The solution is easy. Let's expand halftime by ten minutes. Gives advertisers more time to sell and tailgaters a lil more time to get back.

Get a committee together and talk to Doug.

Did anyone else notice security walking through the stands and noting seat numbers where they found empty beer cans, bottles etc., after the game?
