Did she tell you if the Griz were recruiting Martinez?

No, she was just confirming her dates at the lake this summer. Actually, I talked to her dad. Talked a lot of football and portal, but no qb’s.

Well, if she had no info on Griz recruiting, why are you posting it in this thread?

He got an offer from La Tech. Probably there or UIW I’d guess. Maybe the Griz coaches have someone that’s a “done deal” coming…

UIW is his best offer. LaTech? Who’d want to go play there…

Bobby likes qbs that can’t get past the quarterfinals so he can be home for Christmas. We don’t qb that would be in the Cat’s qb room right now.

Any FCS team would love to have Abbott on their roster. LSU and Oregon wanted him on their roster. And he was on Oregons roster. A PWO from those powerhouse teams is worth more than 20 fcs offers IMO

So why were the Ivy’s the only FCS schools recruiting him out of HS? Abbott didn’t have good offers coming out of HS.

I'll take LSU and Oregons judgment over fcs schools. Obviously Ivy leagues have a lot smarter people in charge too.

How many big time players get offers from FCS schools? Not many.

Oregon n LSU > fcs schools. Not hard to understand. Even if they just wanted him for depth. Most FCS starting qbs would NOT start in FBS. Let's be real.

From an article:

"During spring ball, Abbott shared reps with Oregon’s three scholarship quarterbacks: Jay Butterfield, Bo Nix, and Ty Thompson. Abbott was frequently referenced as being part of the team’s quarterback battle."

If he was even being talked about being in the QB battle at Oregon as a Freshman, that says a fucking lot. We are Montana not the New England Patriots. Kid could absolutely dominate the fcs if given a chance.

Yeah that's the sad part. Unfortunately Bobby does favor upperclassmen. I understand it but, not completely for it. I'm worried he doesn't get a shot till Jr or Sr year and he heads for greener pastures to.

He had zero stars, and zero offers, out of high school, according to Rivals:

I’m not saying he’s bad, I just think you’re overrating how much FBS schools are evaluating walk-ons. I’ve also never seen anything that said LSU actually offered him a spot, fwiw.

Is he even a full scholarship here? I truly don’t know.

So why wasn't he "in the battle" here?

I just think the idea that walk-on QB’s at the P5 level are better than the majority of starting FCS QB’s is ignorant. Especially true when you’re considering the top 25 FCS teams like UM is. Abbott might be good, but him being a walk-on at Oregon isn’t proof of that. We’ve seen walk-on’s and scholarship players from the P5 that haven’t been very good before too.

Couldn't have said it better. But be careful, you'll soon be labeled as one of my multitude of screen names.

Let's be logical about our QB room last season, and end all of unwarranted hype. We lost Johnson mid-season, and replaced him with Brown, who played so poorly in several game that any reasonable coach would have pulled him for another QB. Yet Bobby stuck with Brown, without trying Britt. It has been alleged on egriz that Bobby was not a fan of Britt. Don't know if that is true. But if Abbott is as good as some of you think he is, why would Hauck not play him last season? Obviously, Brown was not getting it done, yet Bobby (or maybe Rosey) made the decision to keep going with him, without even trying Britt or Abbott. Hardly cause to be excited about the prospects for Abbott being the answer next season, IMO

Maybe if you were more than a one trick pony that wouldn’t happen. All is negative and awful with you.

Yeah, the truth often comes across as being negative. I'm all about one thing, and it is making changes in our direction with both the football and basketball programs. So many of you live in the past, and refuse to accept how far we have fallen in both programs. Especially how the Cats have passed us by in both programs.

Don't people get tired of the excuses? "Wait until next season", "wait until he gets his kids in place", "we lost only because our QB got hurt"....et. al. These are lame excuses. Face the facts and the reality. Our two coaches in FB and BB are not getting it done! Period!

Hauck has had 5 years, and is doing nothing but trending down. DeCuire has had previous success, but is also trending down. As Michael Ray Richardson once famously stated "the ship be sinkin'"

We need a Re-Set.

Oh I don’t disagree, but those are the likely 2 at this point. And yes, only because it is FBS.
