Partly agree with you -- the Griz are unlikely to get 7 turnovers in a playoff game. And the cats did partly "give" those turnovers to the Griz.

However, I venture to say that at least 5 of those TOs could be classed as "takeovers" not "giveaways." Yes, Bleskie threw up (get it ) some lame ducks ... but that was because he had a Griz D-man right in his grill. Even then, several of the catches by our guys were pretty fancy. I'd have to re-watch the game (we have it recorded), but at least one of the fumbles was a punch-out, not just an "unforced error." So, while it's unlikely the Griz can do all that again, they've shown -- all through the year -- that they can force turnovers. In fact, they are currently #1 in FCS turnover margin (per NCAA stats).

Just to talk to the 40 years thing... SFA came in to Wa-Griz in 2009 and had 10 turnovers. Not quite a 40 year thing. Yeah, it's rare. However the Griz have a strange knack for creating turnovers. Hell, in the SDSU game the week before, the Griz got 4. In 2011 against Norther Iowa the Griz got 3 picks, including a pick 6. Yes it's not 7 but it is still a lot. The point is, the Griz D has traditionally created turnovers and does so consistently. Occasionally the D gets 7 or 10. It happens.

I think this team will go as far as the OL/TE and DBs will take them. Every other position group has proven themselves as top-notch.

If the OL/TE doesn't get pushed back from the line of scrimmage 2-5 yards on run plays, and actually gets a hat on a hat and gets a push downfield, then the Griz have a chance. They need to give 3 or more seconds to throw from the pocket as well. No blowing assignments or getting manhandled.

If the DBs can play as aggressively as they did against the cats, playing tight and actually going for the ball, then the Griz have a chance. The starting corners only have 1 interception each on the season, and that is because of very, very soft coverage. 10 yard cushion at regular times in the game.

THIS!!!! nothing pisses me off more, no matter what level of football you are playing, then when teams play the corners off of the receivers....get up and jam them..life is so much more difficult as a receiver when every time you come off the ball youre getting checked! Let teams try to hit fades all day...that's a tough pass to complete...the 10yard slant is not however

+1, buddy. And that new offense hasn't been around for 3 years now. That's definitely gotta be in our favor.

I'd like to think Delaney had that in mind all year long. "We'll fool everyone into thinking we run the power game, then once we get to the playoffs... BAM! We unleash JJ and this offense."

Not even remotely close to being true, but I'm stoked to see this offense come alive again.

Take care of business against SD and then on to the big birds. The EWU game should be a good one.

1. The offense can hopefully chew up some clock and keep the D on the sidelines for part of the game.
2. Special teams won't act like they just took Gold at the special olympics this time around.
3. Circus style catches from EWU's receivers won't be repeated at the ridiculous rate as the previous game.
4. JJ being unleashed with a new offensive look - could be tough to contain. Last game the offense was anemic.
5. Booth review will be in effect. (EWU does not have anything high enough to be a booth - so we will refer to it as nest review. A ground nest - well there is that pole, but that is for the dancers/artists) No questionable calls for either team.

Shoota was just returning from an injury last game- so I am sure he will now be able to float above the field and levitate players, but I think our D will be up to the task. Kick SD to the curb, stay healthy, and pray to God a freak tornado tears up that f'ing tampon field before game day. Go Griz

Is it just me, or do a few of the rest of you have trouble remembering a game this year in which both the offense & the defense played a full 60 minutes of championship caliber ball? I 'm thinkin that is what it will take to make it all the way to Frisco.

last Saturday didn't seem to me like the 2nd half offense was all that impressive. Just my opinion, Your entitled to one, but then so am I.

It was the lack of second half offense that has me worried. Our D is tough and remained so for the entire game, but it seemed that the Cat D adjusted to the newer O and was decently effective at keeping the Griz out if the end zone. Either that or MD took his foot off the gas. I love the confidence that the Griz have, I just have concerns about the O being able to move the ball against the better defenses that we are bound to see and if it can keep up with the playoff caliber offenses in our bracket.

You're not allowed to say the offense in the second half wasn't great -- I said the other night in another thread that I was concerned over the lack of the offense in the second half and was immediately told how unpatriotic to the Griz I was being and that the Griz took the foot off the gas. No way in the third quarter with the kind of scoring the Bobcats have put up in the past that they intentionally took the foot off the gas -- maybe in the fourth, but not before then.

So, while I see us getting past San Diego, I think EWU is still going to be a real challenge. If the Griz can play lights out a full game like they did last Saturday in the first half, then I think we've got a chance against EWU. But, I believe it's going to take a full game at full tilt on every play to manage that plus some mistakes by EWU.

If the Griz can get past EWU, then I think the sky's the limit -- that would be an incredible ending to what has been a roller coaster ride these past few years, and no one would be happier than I, but . . . I think it's steeply uphill after this weekend.

Obviously, I agree with you both. I say keep the pedal to the metal, it's playoff time !!!!! A great time for 60 minutes on both sides of the ball.
