App State is very beatable this year. They will have their weakest team in 10 years. Of course, we might have our weakest team too, especially if JJ does not start.

So, are you predicting that the 2012 Mountaineers will finish with a losing record? It sounds like that must be the case since they went 6-5 in 2004.

Or, are you just spouting off about something you really know nothing about?

To Ursa Major's question, I believe they are somewhere around 50-5 at home since 2005 when they started their NC streak. I know they lost to Maine, Nova and Richmond at home in the playoffs over the past few years and once to Georgia Southern in a regular season game. I think there's one more loss in there, but I can't remember when or to whom.

Why don't you dummy-up? The dain brammage is getting a bit much for Griz fans. I know much more about that conference than you do, I assure you. I lived in Atlanta for 11 years, have seen games in Boone, Furman, UT-Chattanooga, and Georgia Southern. i also know two families whose kids played in that conference. What is connection? i'll be sure not to hold my breath.

Hey G1, did they ever get internet in Atlanta????

Don't put words in my mouth. Go back and learn to read, and maybe you would make a relevant post. Embellishment of other's post to try to prove your agenda is weak.

Embellishment nothing. Your original post says "weakest team in 10 years." That seems to infer the team will be weaker than it was in 2004, it doesnt seem that you refuted that interpretation of your original post. Keep acting nasty or maybe post something worth reading.

If you want to use your "seen more games, know more about that conference" argument on me, Im your huckleberry.

I'm excited to see this match up of the two premier programs in recent FCS history.

I've been to Appy's stadium, and it's not overly impressive or loud. Also, Boone is 3,000+ in elevation so I don't think heat will be a major factor either.

Should be a great game. I don't know enough about what App State has coming back to make a prediction, but I expect Montana to put on a good show.

It was an attempt, apparently a poor one, to play on LOUD and COLD. :thumb:

Try me. I live in Charlotte NOW, and have been here for 8 years. You've seen games? Impressive. Add Elon and Spartanburg (that's where Wofford is, but you already knew that...right?) to your list and you might be close. Maybe then throw in a couple of trips to Greenville (NC), Chapel Hill and Clemson to watch SoCon teams collect their play-up paychecks. By the way, you saw a game AT Furman, not IN Furman. Furman is IN Greenville (SC). Additionally, GSU is IN Statesboro. You lived in Atlanta? You've gotta be kidding me. The closest SoCon school to ATL is over 2 hours away. I'm closer than that to 4 of them.

Seroiusly, you're a joke. I should be impressed with the fact that you know two families of kids who played in the CONFERENCE? Hell, I'm friends with 4 guys who played at the specific SCHOOL and am a 4th year supporter of the Yosef Club. Knowing the families of players is really not that impressive. But, then again, for someone like you who lives vicariously through the athletic accomplishments of others much younger than himself (which is more than a little creepy), it's not all that surprising. You should really come back down South sometime and we can compare notes. I'm usually towards the bottom row of KBS section 211...I'll save you a seat.

Now, if anyone other than G1 would like to continue an actual football discussion about a team I've seen play roughly 20 times over the past 7 years, and 3 times last year, I'd really like that. I've become a fan of ASU since moving here...probably because Boone reminds me of home...and really do enjoy discussing Mountaineer football.

Yes, it has been a turbulent offseason in Boone. There are rumors this will be Jerry Moore's last season. ASU wants to jump to FBS and it has been said that Coach Moore doesn't want to be a part of that. Our coaching staff has been almost entirely changed. Mark Speir left to take the head coaching job at Western Carolina, taking Brad Glenn and Trey Elder with him. On a positive note, Scott Satterfield returned as OC. He was QB coach during the glory years and is loved by App fans for his wide open play calling. We even had our own sexual abuse scandal involving a couple of players who were dismissed from the team. Last year ASU's play was inconsistent-- excellent at times and terrible at others. The stat that sticks in my mind is 3 total rushing yards on 25 attempts in the playoff loss to Maine! We have a number of key players coming back but we are losing some key players as well. Simply put, I have no idea what to expect from ASU this year. Still, I can't wait for the Montana game and have been looking forward to it since December 2009. We hope to show ya'll some good southern hospitality and (hopefully) an ass-kicking on the football field!;)

I wish this game were this week end, alas...both schools would like to forget a few things right now. I see App St. as an East version of UM in team support. I do not see them benefitting by moving to FBS levels. I remember when Marshall and Troy were considered great rivals for some teams in the 1AA but now, rarely heard from. I like the bravado of UM and App St., McNeese, North Iowa, ND State...would that carry over to FBS? Doubt it...In the Sept game, I like UM by 7+

I think there is a lot of stuff that needs to be ironed out yet...this can go either way. Who knows, maybe they've been doing stuff poorly from the top down and the lid will get blown off of it hahaha

ZZZZZZZZZZ. Not impressed pussy cat. Yes, I drove hours to view the games, with the parents of players. Yews, I know that Furman is not a town. You don't sh*t about football. If you did, you would have never attended that cow college where they only dream of playing the game. Typical pedestrian fan who thinks he knows something because he attended 20 games. <yawn> You, my short-peckered friend, are a prime candidate for natural de-selection.

PLEASE tell me that you're coming down for the game in September. Hop on the Gulfstream that I'm sure you're going to claim you own and pay us a visit. As we get closer, you can PM me and I'll gladly tell you where we'll be tailgating. We can have a spirited football discussion, it'll be great! You can back up that mouth of yours. I only have one request...please wash your hands first. I know where they've been and would like to avoid contamination of the general area.

Now, stinkfinger, since you're so well-informed about everything, why don't you try to add something to the actual football discussion?

I'm actually laughing as typing this. You're probably the most pitiful little man I've ever encountered on the innerwebs.

Really good points. I, for one, am excited to see what tricks Satterfield brings back. Have you heard anything about the defense and changes there? There were times last year that were amazingly frustrating. How do you give up 42 to Citadel one week and hold GSU to 17 a couple of weeks later?

I'm actually really interested to see where both these teams are with the QB position by the time the game rolls around. UM's for the obvious reasons and ASU simply because it's been such an "unsettled" position since AE left. It'll help if they can find someone to replace Quick...and even Jorden. Have you heard anything about Sean Price?

According to eyewitness accounts on Mountaineer Message Board, Sean Price shows a lot of promise and played great in the spring game. We will see.

Wish that we were not both paid to change our original September 1st date to the next week. Will be glad to get playing after such a frustrating off season for both schools. Believe our defense will be good again, and with Scott Satterfield back running the offense hope it will be presentable.

Truly no idea how this game will stack up. Don't presume to know with so many variables that could come into play. Most likely going to be a great game, but one team could literally roll over the other one, especially so early in the season. Traditionally we do not play that well early on in the football seasons. Almost like Coach Moore waits to see what he has got and then makes corrections. Just hope that doesn't hold true.

What ever happened to the great Armanti Edwards? Truly a great athelete and class act in my book.
The man who engineered the greatest upset in FCS history. Tough duty coming into WA GRIZ in those conditions......courageous fellow and look forward to home on home with Appy. Spent George Birthington's Washday 1969 in Boone while skiing Beech Mountain near the highest elevation on the East Coast.......look it up, not Mount Washington in N.H.

"What ever happened to the great Armanti Edwards? Truly a great athelete and class act in my book.

Armanti begins his third year with the Panthers. Deemed too small to play QB in the NFL, has was drafted in the third round and as a punt returner and receiver. As a rookie, John Fox didn't give him any reps at all. Last year, essentially his rookie year, he returned every punt for the Panthers but only averaged about 5 yards per. It was hard to tell whether this was his fault or the fault of the Panthers horrible downfield blocking as there were usually five defensive guys standing there waiting for him to catch the ball. We will find out this season as the Panthers drafted Joe Adams from Arkansas specifically to return punts. Armanti will have to make the team as a receiver or he will be gone. One Charlotte sportswriter observing him in camp last year said "he will be Steve Smith's replacement." So far, he has only gotten a few reps at receiver in preseason games. Personally, I don't see how anyone could play a position at the NFL level they did not play in college. Anyway, this is a make-or-break year for #14.

For my first Egriz post, I'd like to say how excited I am for the Griz to finally make the trip to The Rock. Our two programs truly are the twin juggernauts of the FCS. You'll find a very similar atmosphere to what you're used to on gameday. Slightly less loud (due to your stadium's acoustic advantages), but a good bit more people. I expect an especially rowdy game when the Griz are in town. The finally drive of the 09 playoffs still haunts me to this day.

Any of you fellas making the trip to God's country for the game?

hmmm, North Carolina is "God's Country"? I thought it was a Bible thumping center. One excludes the other.
