My mistake about the exact # of home wins. You do see my point that our atmospheres are VERY comparable though. I'd give Washington Griz the edge on noise only because of the architecture/acoustics involved. KBS is bigger and there are a few thousand more. Far and away the two most intimidating environments in the FCS.
I really do think the SoCon is more competitive, top to bottom. The SoCon consistently has more ranked in the polls. The BSC seems to be pretty polarized. EWU had an uncharacteristically good year and U or M is the only consistent National Championship contender. Georgia Southern is a powerhouse (along with us) while Wofford has also been constantly strong over the past few years. Elon had a good couple of years recently too and Chatty is on the rise. It is a pretty subjective claim, I know, but there is evidence. The SoCon is a stronger conference.
Funny thing is though, only one of those 5 L's was a conference loss. Maine, Richmond and Villanova were all having the best years in program history when they did the impossible. McNeese beat us in Armanti's first game back from injury (when he ran over his foot with a lawn mower, /facepalm). GaSo is GaSo. They are our arch rival, a fellow powerhouse. We play each other with the white hot intensity of a thousand suns. Only twice in the last 10-12 years has the game been decided by more than a score. They have a huge following too/a loud gameday experience (albeit not on the level of App and U of M) You guys have to go out of conference to meet another team close to your caliber. We do it at least once a year with the Stink.
I'm not trying to make excuses. Well, I guess I am, but the point is we DO in fact have a comparable atmosphere to U of M. Things happen on any given saturday and having a SLIGHTLY better home record doesn't necessarily imply that your home advantage is any greater than that of ASU.
Sorry the terrible rhetoric earlier. This is the first time I've been able to sit at the computer and think since this morning.
My GOD. If you're going to use Chatty as your bar for teams "on the rise", we're wasting our time here. They are 6-5, 5-6 and 6-5 in their last three seasons.
You seem to be working VERY hard to justify your previous comments. I don't think anyone is doubting that the Rock is a comparable atmosphere...but when you spout "stats" that turn out to be incorrect, then continue to add layers of qualifiers in an attempt to spin those stats, you just come off as a hater. BTW, regarding Montana's 38-2 home record...only one of THOSE losses was a conference loss too...
And even your point about "going outside the conference" to find a team of equal caliber is a stretch. Your toughest opponent the last 9 years has been GSU...you're 6-3 against them. Our toughest in-conference opponent has been EWU...we're 7-2 against them.
GaSo hasn't exactly been a world-beater the past 8 years (well until the last two) and Wofford has almost an identical performance to MSU...we could go around and around, but point is this: the BSC ain't a one trick pony any more...and with the addition of the GWFC teams it's gotten even stronger (at least from a football standpoint).
I'll stack UM/EWU/MSU/Cal Poly/Weber up against ASU/GSU/Wofford/Elon/Chatty any day of the week. Personally, I think the BSC goes 4-1 in that set of matchups...
