anyone know what happened to RUsh at MSU?

Talk in the preseason was that Erik Rush was supposed to be a factor for Montana State, now I don't see him in the box scores at all? Did he get hurt? bad grades? Just not good enough?

As noted in another thread on a different subject... he's redshirting.

MSU had a log jam at the small forward/guard spot. Have quite a few seniors at that spot, as well as JC transfers, not to mention Freshman / Sophomores Rush, Piepoli, and Thomas. Rush was battling senior Mecklin Davis for a starting spot at the 3 and was a head of junior Phil Friesen on the depth chart. In the end Huse took a calculated risk by redshirting all freshman and sophomores who had a redshirt year remaining, except Bobby Howard. That left the Cats with only 11 active players out of 16 on the roster, and one of those players was a walk-on freshman. Huse did not want to split time between Davis, Rush, and Friezen. He said he would rather play two of them major minutes than spread the time around. Last I talked to Huse he fully expects that Rush now has the opportunity to be a three year starter for the Cats.

I was at the first game that the programs announced Rush was redshirting. It was funny to listen to people pick up there program almost yell at their friends... "Huse is redshirting Rush!!!" "No Way" "Why the hell would he do that", the next person would sit down..... "Huse is redshirting Rush!!!" and on and on.

BTW: Don't discount Piepoli either, the kid can shoot, and is a great defender.

BTW2: So far the gamble has paid off but if we have a major injury to Durham, Hennessy, Davis, or Meckling, look for Rush to come off the his redshirt.
