Anyone else notice the umpire today?

On more than one occasion I watched our offense get down in the hurry up offense, with the play clock running and the umpire would stand over the ball waiting for the defense get set? I was under the impression they didn't have to wait for the defense. I know they have to wait for the other Refs but this was with like 15-20 seconds off the play clock already...

That happened last week during the Liberty game too.

Subbing in and out - that's why.

In the hurry-up the Griz will sub players in and out and the rule book says that the defense must be allowed enough time to make personnel adjustments. I caught that as well but when the Griz didn't sub anyone out he would just give it 1 or 2 seconds and then let the play go.

If the team wants to avoid this issue we should go with a group of 11 players and not rotate in 2 or 3 players on every down. That would stop this.

If the offense subs then they have to give the defense an opportunity to sub also, this was discussed last week

I remembered that rule, but wasn't sure if we had subbed. Thanks for clearing that up.

Perhaps the coaching staff will figure that out by week 9 or 10.

Yeah by our 3rd series I noticed him holding up the play so I started to watch, we'd sub out slot and one split-out WR almost every down.

Makes more sense now. I was watching for Subbing but I guess I was too late at recognizing it. I agree we need to work on more plays per player package so we aren't being held up as much. You can watch the quicker we play, the more our confidence builds and it just gets better from there.
