I'm laughing because they don't really have a "winning tradition". Don't get me wrong; Nova is a fine FCS program. Are they an elite program? No. Are they anywhere near Montana's level? F*ck no.

Well, I just looked it up and they have more of a winning tradition than we do...
We have won 53% of our games in our history and they have won 54% we have two chippers and they have at least one. So I'm not really sure there is a huge difference. They have a pretty good following. Not as good as the griz currently but historically we were not followed that well prior to Washington Griz stadium. Just sayin'

C'mon I-O. You're better than that.

Here's a suggestion for both of you:

Go to AGS. Start a thread saying "Name the Top 5 FCS Elite Programs".

If, after say a week, the Griz aren't listed on 75% of the answers and Nova is listed on 35% of them, I'll send you each a $1,000. If that's not the case, you send me a grand.

That's some pretty damn good odds I'm giving you. And yes, monteisacatfan, I'll still be laughing, all the way to f*cking bank.

I guess your arguement is just opinion related and not fact based? Is that what your saying?
UM is most definitely an elite fcs program but it is because people have short memories. There are lots of great programs that have had their years in the sun. Ours has been in the last twenty..

This is kind of a silly argument, go ask a diverse selection of fans on AGS and you'll see something like this:

Top all-time FCS programs:

1) Georgia Southern
2) YSU or ASU or Montana or NDSU or Marshall
7-10) Delaware, UNI, McNeese, Eastern Kentucky, etc.

Well, then you and I certainly agree, and we both disagree with monte is a cat fan.

Cat fan? Hardly. You must have run out of logic to defend the fact that you are living in the past, and pulling out the old "Cat fan" card, much like Al & Jesse pull out the race card when they come up empty.

Indian-O and Brock are right. You can look at any select time frame in the past 50 years and pull out the stats that make your argument look good. Georgia Southern and Youngstown dominated our division for many years, but no longer. We had our time in the sun, and could have it again, but it will not happen with this coaching staff. Like I said earlier, the sooner you accept reality, the sooner you will stop accepting mediocrity.

I'd be interested in numbers from the beginning of FCS which would be 1978 to present. If they were playing the equivalent of NAIA games while we were playing in the Pacific Coast Conference which contained many of the teams in what is now the PAC 12 it will skew the data a lot...not trying to sway the data one way or another, but I feel it may paint a completely different picture of the numbers.

Edit-thought it would be fun to look for myself.

Villanova since the reopening of the program in 1985- 203-122-1
Montana since 1978 309-138-1

Nova has won 62.3%
Montana has won 69%

top 3 elite FCS programs in the nation. We are not even close to that level now

Please.

Name even two FCS programs that can compare to Montana in winning tradition, facilities, fan support, national recognition, etc. Montana is still the gold standard at our level.

You are delusional. Stop living in the past. Facilities and fan support don't win national championships. We have not been an elite program since Hauck left. EWU, Sam Houston, NDSU, Villanova.... these are the new kids on the block. Until Griz fans start accepting the fact that it is over, and has been over for 5 years now, we will never return to where we were. We need a new staff, stop the good-ol-boy hiring practices, and new direction to return to that level.

Oh the drama!

That is a good point except that Villanova played NCAA University Division (Major College) or NCAA Division I from 1939 to 1980. They only played Div III from 85-87. As opposed to the griz who played NCAA University Division (Major College) from 1939-62 and Div II from 73-77. But technically the question was who are the elite FCS programs? And that does mean since 1978 so of course Montana is one of the top programs. I was just arguing that Villanova is nothing to laugh at.

Indian-O and Brock are right

Uh, yeah they're right. They agree with me that Montana is an elite FCS program. You're the only one claiming they're not. More msu edumacation at work....

Anyone else just see the blocked PAT from the Sac State-Northern Co. game on Monday Night Countdown? So pathetic, but so damn funny.

Goldie Hawn is no longer a babe and Detroit is no longer Motor City...too bad the dreamers can't be satisfied that the Griz once actually had an elite program - before the Big Sky became a water-downed way station for DII class programs with nowhere else to go. Look around! Competition has everything to do with image and how you're preceived - and there is precious little of that left in either the BSC or the FCS. The party's over and the dreamers are the guys you find sleeping off hangovers in your closet the next morning. It's time they wake up to the brain-numbing effects of Kool-aid.

Oh yeah, absolutely knee-slappin,' fallin' down, hilarious     ..and so consistent with the thread topic showing how bad the BSC really is. Thank you for your service ...now where were we...?

U know U are in a bad dream when your extra point try hits your own lineman in the back of the helmet. Of course you put the kicker in for the next try....

I pick lowly Idaho State to pick off a BS team this season. Big elephant has the offense cooking and as I have said before, he hates msu.......could be.

LOWLY? Look at their schedule: SUU, @UNC, @PSU, CalPoly, @MSU, Weber. They have a good chance at sweeping the remaining six games, which would put them at 9-3 overall, 7-1 conference. Playoff material. This weeks Sagarin Ratings: EWU #78, Griz #115, Cats #118, ISU #131. FYI. The Big Human strikes again.

Uh... no. They don't even have a GOOD chance of going 5 for 5 out of the remaining games sans MSU. Let alone coming into Bobcat Stadium and knocking off a likely top five team in our house when they aren't even ranked in the top 25? Jesus the weed must be getting more and more potent in hippietown these days.

Poorgriz, you need to read more than the Bozeman Daily Chronicle and MSU Exponent. I find the Coaches Poll and Media Poll questionable, at best. No accounting for WHY they rate teams the way they do. Evidently, they only have time to see who won, and by how much. Thats why I like Sagarin. Check out his rationale, and formula. In 1-AA he rates the Griz #20, Cats #22, and ISU #26. Squeeky tight. A couple weeks ago, Kramer was quoted as saying the only team playing defense was the Griz. ISUs defense has been doing well since, which is more than can be said for the Cats. Believe what you wish, but the Kramer enema is coming Nov. 15. Note: you can tell who are the Bengal fans because they will be wearing LATEX GLOVES!

Agree to disagree then. No way in hell ISU sweeps their next six games. I know the Big Human too well and am painfully aware of how up and down his teams can be.

Yes and Massey who who uses 37 polls in their composite, including Sagarin has the Cats #14, Griz #19 and ISU #31. It is unfortunate for the Cats that the Griz do not play ISU this year. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Bengals with only two losses in conference, and a trip to the playoffs. The Massey ratings will be interesting for the Griz and ISU in two weeks. At that time, they both will have played UNC and the Griz and Cats will have played UCD.
