Any New Big Games in the Horizon?

When it comes to scheduling, we are a victim our own success. Financially, about the only play up games would come from the power 5 conferences. By the looks of where those conferences are headed, those games may no longer be an option soon.

Directly contradicts the Wyoming game last year.

We can play them every so often if we choose. But it's not the financial windfall that it is to most FCS programs. We didn't make any money on that game.
Wyoming paid us twice what they usually pay for an FCS visitor. $400 M plus the revenue from the allotted tickets. We net far more for a home game, even a DII. Financial decisions don't generally go the favor of fans.

All I can say is wow. We take in more than $400 Mil @ every home game? I say screw the move up crap if that's our take of the gate. We're swimming in it. No wonder the coach can head of for some golf r&r in the Springs. :)

Brint, a series with an Ivy would be great. Washington is a done deal for 2017, and with no more 12-game scheds until 2019, I'm not sure the Griz would play another FBS before that. I had heard that the department really wants to visit Boise State badly in the near future though. Look for that deal to get done at some point.

I think Haslam carries on the O'Day practice that most players should have an opportunity for 1 FBS game over a 4 year playing career and books them on a 3 to 4 year basis. So yeah with a 2017 game at UW you'd be looking at 2020 or 2021 for the next game.

Kem I am not sure it is true that UM nets more for a DII home game. DII games usually have a ticket price of $25 or less. Figure at most there are around 21,000 tickets sold, and that is for a complete sell out - students don't pay more for their tickets if we add an extra game, and if you figure 1000 - 1500 comp tickets (attendance numbers count every person in the stadium, including people who sell 50/50, ushers, etc). Of course not all DII games are heavily attended, and some are priced lower than $25 (plus student guest passes are lower priced as well). On the low side a DII team would gross about $380,000, (19,000 x $20), and on the high side gross about $630,000 (21,000 x $30). I would guess on average a DII game gross an additional $500,000 in revenue (20,000 x $25)

Of course you have extra game day fees from holding the game vs traveling, a few years ago I think O'Day estimated it cost $150,000 for game day costs, which I believe include $50,000 for a guarantee but not sure about that. I would expect a DII game to net around $350,000 for football, although higher income for the University and local Missoula business.

so to recap:

--"...prefer san diego state, fresno, idaho, new mexico, nevada..."

--"players would probably love an early season visit to san diego..."

--"be great to play unlv or new mexico..."

--"probably boise state or nevada..."

--..."department really wants to visit boise state badly in the near future..."

so here's an idea. don't "stick your toe in the water." dive in! make your fantasies a reality! let's do it!! it's time...

no, it's past time. way past.

citay, sounds good EXCEPT, last time I checked, Montana can't join the MWC conference just because they and their fans "want to". If that's the way it worked, than I "want" a million dollars just handed to me.

A million? What is it with you flat-Earthers? Anyone who isn't afraid of the big time would want at least ten million. ;)

Perhaps. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't strive for that goal, and begin to prepare for it when it does become an option. Right now we still have far too many "we're just little ol' Montana" types who will never allow an FBS move to happen, even when it IS possible.

I wonder what kind of deals NDSU has been getting the last few years? I forget the capacity of the bubble.
Deals for what? FBS teams do not play at FCS venues.

For traveling to play the FBS teams they have recently. I could see how my statement could have been misconstrued. It was mentioned we have a hard time traveling for FBS games as our home payoff is usually better. Obviously NDSU is usually (or always?) a home sellout at around 19,000 capacity. I mentioned capacity as I was curious if we can make more money staying home, can they also?

Have they come out ahead playing Kansas, Minnesota, Colorado St, Kansas St, Iowa St? Not on the scoreboard, rather monetarily?

Don't you mean...
