It was pretty cool with the sun being "eclipsed" by the smoke-hidden Bitterroots. I took some pics and hope to upload them shortly.

seriously back in the day when smoking was allowed in bars the air was WAYYYY worse that whats outside now. I remember bars so smokey you could hardly see all the way across the room.

not just idaho, MT has the sawtooth fire burning.....this is where most of Mslas smoke is coming from.....

there has been times in the last two days I could only see about 1/4 mile or less, on the west side of town.....

Do I know you !!???? Those coal trains are sprayed with a latex, they do not leave anything behind, and to prove it go down to the yard this winter, look in a fresh fallen snow, and tell me how much coal dust appears......yeah, right....NONE !

You can't see the Sawtooth plume through the Idaho smoke in Hamilton. (or did Dan Q change the spelling to Idahoe?). In any case, smoke the Flames.

Do I know you !!???? Those coal trains are sprayed with a latex, they do not leave anything behind, and to prove it go down to the yard this winter, look in a fresh fallen snow, and tell me how much coal dust appears......yeah, right....NONE !

I thought I read it as something like less than 5 parts per million of the dust that they had to wipe off of a window sill 50 ft from the tacks might of contained some coal.

Looking back several decades the valley floor had 15-20 Teepee burners smoking 24/7 and most everyone in town was working at a Good Paying job in the Lumber industry. This smoke in the air was a very minor inconvience and the funny thing is any native Missoulian that is here today and over 50 years old LIVED through it. Look at most of the old pictures around town, everyone is wearing a hat, not because they were in style. But, because a hat kept the ash out of your hair.

I recall the wall of smoke coming up the bitterroot into Missoula in 2000. It was crazy to see it move in like it did. Smoke then lasted until the snow fell.

Am I the only one that remembers the inversions in the winters in Missoula up until they banned wood stoves? Hell, it was like this just about every day in the winter, and it was "Local" smoke. Top Hat, Lukes and the Flame were just small contributors. Back then, they were Stage 1, 2 and 3 Alerts.
