Anthony Johnson

AJ again was the leader last night. Good solid game by Anthony. I think he is the best pure leader the griz have, without question. I think he needs to start, and play 25-30 minutes a game, if not more. He brings intensity all the time, is always looking to be the aggressor, and just plain makes things happen. Again, I don't want to diss CET, because I think he is a solid player, I think he would perform better off the bench, and should/could play substantial minutes. I liked the lineup with him and AJ in there together last night, I think that is effective. AJ is better on the defensive end, plays more of a leadership role there as well, IMO

I would like to see AJ start too, but not at point. His scoring is more likely to come from the 2 or 3 position. CET is an excellent pg and defender. The team need him to start. AJ in relief of CET at the point is fine, because he is developing rapidly at that position. He also is a heck of a passer.

From what I've seen so far its hard to argue that AJ shouldn't be the starting lineup. To think about starting both (AJ and CET) and sitting Staudacher is ridiculous. Staudacher is a must - now if we can just get CET AND AJ to find him. Do you ever notice how hard it is for Stauds to get good looks against GOOD teams? If defenses decide to key on Stauds, AJ and CET can provide no relief. Hasquet is good at finding Staudacher and at least he looks for him. The 3ptr is an important weapon in this game - especially if we are every going to beat anybody good. For those of you arguing that Hasquet shouldn't be shooting them - just who do you think should? I would argue that having him as a threat out there frees looks up for Stauds. If you think about games when we played GOOD teams and won, Hasquet has always been a contributor from 3pt range: Standford, Nevada, NAU (BSC tourney), etc. He is a mis-match and he gets good looks because when they guard him with a big guy he can slip out and get a look - if they put a small guy on him, he can take him down low and post him up (if only the Griz were capable of responding to mis-matches like EVERY other team we play).

I'm sure alot of you guys think Selvig is too tall to shoot 3's as well. He's a good shooter, and when he is in there we should be trying to get him some looks. He's not physical enough to bang but if he starts hitting 3's and they put a guard on him, he should have no problem posting up a guard. Again, we will have to watch in frustration as the Grizzly offense fails to identify the mis-match for the 3rd straight year.

ps. McGillis will be fine. Tinkle needs to cut him loose and ease of the quick trigger. Get him the ball, clear out, and let him go to the hole.

I say start AJ or CET, keep them fresh and keep rotating them. You can't sit Stauds and sitting Hasquet or McGillis would be ridiculous.

AJ has been finding Stauds. McGillis has not been subject to the "quick trigger". Look at his minutes. Stauds has been having a hard time getting open. Opponents are pretty familiar with what he does when he does get open. :)
