A full time UM student pays $77 dollars in athletics fees per semester, whereas a full time student at JMU pays $1,150! f###[#] ridiculous. UM needs to raise the damn fees.
Good way to encourage enrollment growth.

I’m not saying we need to increase all the way to $1,150 per semester, but I definitely think $200-$300 per semester is totally reasonable and would be game changing for the athletic department. $77 seems super low.

A move up would spike ticket prices a bunch...a big bunch.

I don’t think so, unless we didn’t raise student fees to offset the cost of a move up. Just look at what the typical price of a ticket at BYU, Boise state, or San Diego state runs. It’s not that much worse. I’ve gotten used to paying $55 bucks for a Griz game. Those aforementioned schools charge similar or slightly more.

I paid $1400 for 2 season tickets to Texas Tech. I pay $540 for two season tickets to the Griz.

That’s P5 ball though. I’m betting UM is similar to most G5

Raising the student fees to $300/semester would generate another $3.5 million/year based on 8000 students. Hardly a game changer. Now if we could somehow enroll another 10,000 students..................

Why? Oh look the boys won 78-0 over Texas Evangical Tech. Then lost 35-17 to South Carolina in the Viagra Carharts Tented Pants Bowl.
Just teasing, football is football, but you brought this on yourself. ;)

Per semester right? So $7 million a year? I’m too lazy to do the math. Regardless, It’s something, especially when we need to add one more team to become FBS eligible.

-side note, I thought we were up over 10k student body again?

Also, not sure this would be looked upon favorably by the students. They do have some say in this after all.

Nope, that's per year. Remember you are already getting $77/semester from them. Here's my math: $223(300-77) x 8000students x 2semesters I could be wrong, but that's how I came up with my figure.

That 10,000 figure includes Missoula College enrollment, not just UM Missoula, so even that 8000 figure could be high.

Raising ticket prices is not a viable option because a significant percentage of those revenues do not go to the athletics department. A further percentage goes to offset facility maintenance and staging costs, ( concessions, ticketing, security, advertising, etc). While some monies for actual athletic programs would be generated by raising ticket prices, a much more efficient option is raising the fee.

Problem is, you probably can't raise them enough to make the difference implied in this thread!

That 10,000 figure includes Missoula College enrollment, not just UM Missoula, so even that 8000 figure could be high.

"Total headcount is 9,955 this fall compared to 10,106 last year, a 1.5 enrollment drop." at UM. "Also, the main campus counts 8,094 students, more than the 8,074 last year, UM said." (https://dailymontanan.com/2022/09/26/university-of-montana-montana-state-count-enrollment-wins-with-incoming-classes/).

So, 8,000 is a reasonable number to use since Missoula College students are not required to pay athletic fees (https://www.umt.edu/business-services/students/tuition-and-fees/tuition-fees-fall-spring2022-2023/fy2023-tuitionfee-mso-coll1.pdf). Sure, they can and might pay into it. Raise it a lot and fewer would likely opt-in.
The 8,000 number doesn't tell us how many are considered full-time and subsequently paying the $77 instead of the $51 (for part-time).

UM enrollment...8000
JMU enrollment...22000
Alabama enrollment...38000

Stats are close, but could be off some. Higher enrollment = more fees. At least that seems to be part of the equation.

JMU had much higher athletics fees per student….I saw a comparative article I wanna say around a year or so ago.

Yeah, great memory, it was from a little while back-- long article but adds some detail to all this: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/education/hidden-figures-college-students-may-be-paying-thousands-athletic-fees-n1145171

I did it because my daughter was a member of the Pom Squad. I haven’t been to a game since she graduated.

Texas Tech is still sneaky good...as they have been for years.
