Another big weekend on the horizon

As many recall last week I posted about the amount of big games in front of Montana that will help them get back into the top 10.

This Saturday is a big one for a lot of schools, and for our Griz, a win is a must.

#2 NDSU @ #9 SDSU
#4 MSU @ #5 EWU
#6 SE Louisiana @ Incarnate Word (IW is 6-2)
Missouri State (5-3) @ #7 Southern Illinois
#8 UC Davis @ NAU (4-4)
#10 Villanova @ Elon (4-4)

Of that grouping we had SDSU, MSU, IW, and Missouri St all pull off wins. While we don't know what the new top 25 is going to look like, there's some major games happening this weekend as well. I'd guess that NDSU will stay above Montana for sure. EWU, it's tough to guess how far they fall considering this is their 2nd loss in a row. SIU and SELA should both drop out of the top 10. I'd guess Montana lands in the 8/9 range for rankings. For this coming Saturday, here's what I'm seeing:

6-3 Eastern Kentucky vs #1 Sam Houston, EKU did just lose. This will be only the 2nd time this whole season SHSU plays against a team with a winning record (they beat now 6-3 SFA 21-20).

4-5 Illinois State vs North Dakota State - ISU beat UNI this weekend, hard to imagine NDSU drops 2 in a row though.

James Madison vs 6-3 William & Mary - JMU will be #2 or #3 in the nation I'd assume. W&M did lose this weekend so their playoff hopes are on the line here.

7-2 Eastern Washington vs 8-1 UC Davis - Its in Davis, there could be a playoff seed on the line here. Davis, with a win, and some help (PSU win and an MSU loss) could still win the conference

4-5 Stony Brook vs Villanova - SB has won 3 in a row, right now the last playoff seed is probably between UM and 'Nova

5-4 UNI vs 6-3 Missouri St - We all know even if UNI loses they'll be on the right side of the playoff bubble, joking aside though the loser of this game is out of the playoffs and helps stronger conferences like the Big Sky justifying sending 5 teams to the playoffs.

5-4 Portland State vs 7-2 Sacramento State - PSU's already ruined Weber's post-season hopes, can they crush Sac's conference title hopes? PSU has to be kicking themselves over that costly Idaho loss, if they don't lose that game they're 6-3 and 5-1 in conference. They finish @Sac & vs EWU. Win out, and with no Idaho loss... they're in the playoffs. Hell... win out and they still could make the playoffs if there's enough chaos the next 2 weeks.

Since a matchup with UC Davis seems likely for the Griz because we have not played each other this year and regional proximity, we should probably be rooting for UC Davis to lose the next two games. It would put the Griz at a home field advantage should we meet up with them. Of course, the Griz needs to take care of business the next two weeks first.
Thoughts?
Go Griz!

This is a great write up, isn’t it crazy how some teams come out of nowhere this time of year? PSU…? Are they legit? They could be good enough to cause some problems right? The MVFC are all beating the brakes off each other, JMU and SHSU playing imposter syndrome with a relatively cake walk schedule thus far..

Villanova was not exactly a cake walk for JMU.
