announcement on Friday?

I have heard whirring rumors this morning that there will be an announcement on Friday that Krysko has taken another job.

I can't confirm this - but the people I have asked who usually know - have heard the same thing.

In addition, the Bobcats contacted Huse about their position.

It feels like we will lose both of them. Which is O.K. - they are both good coaches and deserve to move on - and we will be in good hands with Wayne.

In Salt Lake I talked to some one pretty close-they indicated that
Larry wasn't going anywhere.

Not going anywhere until a job is offered him.

Krysko is a great guy and has done a great job at UM, but when offered a chance to move up, he will take it in a heart beat... sorry.

Not just any job; it must be a good opportunity.

Q: If an opportunity came up after this season was over, you'd have to look at that?

A: I don't think that my work is done here. It's one of those deals - and I've made the comment before - if I end up staying here for 20 years and try to pull a Robin Selvig, that's going to be perfectly fine by me. ... If the right job came up and talk was going on about it, I would not say, ‘No, I'm not interested, my work is not done here yet.' I wouldn't say that.

Q: Regardless of whether that's at the end of this year or two years from now?

A: Yeah, I mean I'm on a one-year contract. I didn't sign up for multi years. The same commitment I'm given is the commitment I'm providing in return.

The Hauck/SDSU rumors were last year. They filled their coaching vacancy immediately after the season ended.

RUMOR :rocket:

One more instance where we need the board of regents to change the one year deal to our coaches. LK's quote stated that he has a one year contract and if that is all the commitment he gets then that is the commitment he will give in return. I would sure like to lock some of these guys up for 5 years or so.

Coaches with multi-year contracts leave or are fired from colleges all over the country every year. I'm not sure the length of the contract makes much difference.

Multi-year contracts make a heckuva difference in terms of a coach feeling financially secure on other than a month to month basis. :thumb:

Typically, the university has to pick up the contract, or buy it out, if the coach is sent packing during the term of years. The same is true at the pro level. It makes it easier for Erickson to accept the UI salary when the 49ers are still shelling out 1.2 million a year to him. But then again, that's how the business is run in most schools, excepting those that only offer 1-year deals.

I am fully aware that coaches get fired or opt out of contracts all the time, but I think that a coach feels more secure when they have a mulit year contract. It shows a committment to the coach from the school and in turn can build more loyalty from the coaches point of view. I semi quoted a previous post where LK stated that he was given a one year committment so that is all he felt he need to give back.

The University Officials need to get off their butts and make Larry and his staff feel like they are going to do what they can to keep them, instead of sitting back and just waiting for something to happen and then reacting to it. O'Day needs to meet with them personally and immediately. If they have to increase pay, name streets after them, courts, whatever. But do something. Last year after their success he just left their new contracts on their desk to sign, I know they were not happy about it. Whether people know it or not, losing Coach Huse will really hurt the program, he is a great coach and a real stablizing force for the staff. If Larry goes as well, and Tinkle is left here to fend for yourself, you can kiss our success goodbye. Tinkle has no head coaching experience, does not have the connections that Larry has, nor the recruiting connections and success that Huse has. He may do ok, but he will not be able to maintain the high level of basketball that is upon us.

O'Day is doing something, and has been in contact with them every step of the way. But his budget is only so big, and there are some offers we simply cannot compete with.

Likewise, if Brad wants to be a head guy now, (and significantly increase his salary), there is not much we can offer him right now.

The athletic department is working on this. If you want to get on someone, get on Main Hall for some more $$$$$$$$.
