Hey guys, I need to let you know that recruits and their families monitor social media sites like this, just FYI. I am Alex's dad and I needed to respond and let you know Alex loves the Griz and made the decision to join UNLV because he wants to study engineering and UM does not have an engineering school. You may be surprised where UNLV will go under this former coach from Bishop Gorman. UM is an awesome school and place, he loved it but had to make a decision on his future, it broke his heart and was not easy. I just wanted everyone to know that it had nothing to do with UM or wanting to go to school in Las Vegas (he better not be going to strip clubs). I think Stitt and his new staff will do awesome, they are great people and coaches. I know Alex and I will be watching UM and he has friends on the team.

Mr Neale,
Unfortunately, there are people on every fan board who feel like they can be jerks because they have an anonymous username. I think I speak for most when I say that you should be proud of your son. Choosing a school based on what he will be doing for the next 40 years is much more important than choosing one based on what you will do for the next 4. I wish him well. I selfishly wanted him to be a griz, but will be a supporter regardless.

Absolute best of luck to your son. Any dad (including myself) should be turning handsprings if their son chooses to make the degree at the end college a major part of the decision. Kudos to him for entering a degree field that in itself is demanding along with playing college ball. From your post, it sounds like your son is setting himself up for a great future. Good for him and good for you for raising a son that would make a decision like that.

I have an engineering degree that I acquired outside the state of Montana and don't regret it for a moment. I grew up in Missoula and I will always bleed maroon but life goes on well beyond college and having a degree that affords comfort and security for your family is a truly wise decision. Now then, engineering is not for everyone so anyone that chooses a U of M education is making the best decision they can as well. The U of M and Missoula are great places and if I could make a living at engineering living there, I'd be there in a heart beat. Best o' luck to your son in pursuit of his dreams!

From day one I was extremely high on Alex Neale. I broke down his play on tv of his games that were shown on tv here in Montana with my DVR. He kicked butt on every single play. I was damn impressed. I even called him one of our best recruits, if not THE best recruit.

Flat-out awesome post, Dadrecruit! Thank you so much. I stupidly had not considered it was an educational decision (engineering). That took a lot of maturity and wisdom. Smart move by Alex. :thumb: I think I can speak for 99 percent of Griz Nation when I say that we wish him nothihng but the best!

If he wanted to major in engineering, then why did he commit to the Griz back in early Auguest of 2014? It's pretty well known that we don't have an engineering program?

Very classy and articulate post dad. Your son is clearly an outstanding and exceptional young man, let alone stellar athlete and I'm certain he will be a success in whatever he ends up doing athletically, academically, and in life. No question the young man he has become reflects the product of a terrific set of parents. Best of fortunes to all of the Neale family!

Sounds to me that UNLV's staff uncovered a selling point. Alex, what do you want to honestly pursue for a career? Engineering. Then why not play football and study engineering? Think about your long term future, beyond the football field. What is more important to you, playing football or securing a future career field? UNLV will allow you to play football, study engineering, and play against better competition. How about it?

I didn't know what I wanted to study in college the August before my senior year in high school. I don' t think that is all that unusual.

I don't buy it. If you commit to a program before your senior year of football starts, it's usually because you are sure of what you want.

Alex, sad to see you go.
Best of luck to you, and UNLV's new coach. :thumb:
Dad thanks for bringing us up to speed with the why. :thumb:

Then why verbal???

Here's the elephant in the room...why doesn't UM start an engineering school? MSU has a business school, education, etc. All part of our central mission. With the need for more engineers, our lame-ass president should put his efforts into lobbying the Regents to add an engineering school at our campus instead of piling on self-imposed NCAA penalties for our football program.

Valid question Ursus1.

Grizindabox thinks he's a genius and knows it all.

Unlv might be a good school for Alex but I don't agree with his dad that unlv is going to do any better under this new coach.

He committed because he wanted to be a Montana Grizzly, but when the opportunity presented itself for him to get an opportunity to attend a school that allowed him to pursue his passion for engineering, he took it...not sure it takes a fricken' rocket scientist to figure that out.

Best of luck to Alex at UNLV. I appreciate that he wanted to be a Griz, and I completely respect that he has decided to pursue an education that is not available in Missoula. The world has a funny way of working itself out. If UNLV isnt' a great fit for Alex perhaps he looks to the Griz, similar to other recent OL who have tried UNLV only to come back to Montana after attending UNLV for a period.

Go Griz!
