Air Raid

I'm watching the replay vs EWU and when we got into the 4th and had to throw the ball we did with great success! Even last week vs Cal Poly that last drive in regulation we drove right down the field. Our run game hasn't worked as of late but we continue to go to the well and right now it's empty. I know there's other posts about it but if JJ actually dropped back and threw the ball 35-40 times a game he could. With his accuracy and great decision making + our great receivers (especially Henderson and Jones) that can make plays down field and our line is great vs pass rush. I know this won't happen but we could totally have success with this type of Air Raid throw the ball around type of offense. And also just to add JJ is great on the run and escapes rush easily and can also make plays down field with his feet... Not sure what you guys think but IMO it would work with great success

CP went into Prevent Defense and gave us the middle and short passing game.

EWU went into "prevent", believing that we'd run out of clock before we scored FOUR TIMES. They were right. Even if we HAD made the FG...

I'd like to see the Griz try a small adjustment. Establish the pass to set up the run instead of the old school conventional run to set up the pass approach.

Uh dude your thinking outside of the box here.. You got it all wrong.. We gotta run it the middle, run it up the middle again for a loss and then on 3rd and 13 run er again.. You know that sheeees..

It would be nice to see some more passing used. Get the defense set up with the pass then busy off a big run. Get Van and Canda out in space to make some plays.

I'm not sure this possibility would ever enter Mick's mind.

I'm in. Also want to see this defense tackle betterand slow some passing attacks down!

I know the defense is bustin' their ass at practice, but the above bolded is what I'd REALLY like to see come game time!

Yes he is. The Griz aint abandoning the run.
Thank the heavens they switched offense strategy. 2010 -2012 they hardly averaged any rushing yards...this is much better.

Actually Stubbins I totally agree with you. The Griz were a RUNNING TEAM under Pflu and I wish they still ran that offense. With JJ at the helm, the spread was much more effective than the power game the Griz run now. But the fact is they do not, and they are not switching back to it now. The hope and idea is, the Griz start to play better with the system they have in place. I for one believe they can.

"Yards per pass attempt (YPA) is the success rate of the combination of play design and play-making. ... YPA is the measure of total offensive efficiency. YPA tells you not how much yardage your offense has gained; YPA tells you how well your offense is gaining yardage. YPA is not a quantity; YPA is a quality. Thus, unlike quantity statistics such as passing yards, which only tell you what has happened in the past, YPA provides an indication as to what you can rationally expect in the future on any down that the offense attempts to pass."

Montana passing offense: 8.83 yards per attempt, 10th best in FCS (better than most NFL quarterbacks).

Montana rushing offense: 5.04 yards per attempt, 24th best in FCS.

Up Next: Sacramento State

Sac State: Out of 122 FCS teams, Sac State is No. 108 in pass defense, giving up 266 yards per game (the Griz average 251 ypg passing offense).

Sac State: The Griz average 205 yards rushing per game. Sac State gives up an average of 145 yards rushing per game, which is within 14 yards per game from what Cal Poly, MSU, NAU, UNC, and Montana give up.

Looks like Sac's weakness may be the pass.

My thoughts exactly. :thumb: I believe short passes to Van and Canada out of the backfield as well as to the receivers will pull the linebackers off the line of scrimmage which should open up the running game. Just my two bits. GO GRIZ!!!!
