Adam Brzeczek?

I was just thinking. Does anyone else believe we should give this guy a chance before we consider dropping the "spread" offense? Maybe he is the answer if JJ doesn't come back. If he is competent, it could be the easiest solution to our QB woes.

I would have liked to see if he could have done something saturday in the second half. At least McKinney who could have done some damage with his legs at least, because what was happening wasn't working at all.

Not my words, but I read this blog post from GrizFan-24 just earlier today:

2. SPREAD IS NOT A SPECIFIC OFFENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I about threw my lap top across the room 10 times on Saturday night because of this. I don’t know how to explain to people that spread is a philosophy, not a scheme. No matter the amount of argument I could make is obviously going to change that. There are maybe seven to ten different spread schemes out there and not a one exactly the same but they are all under the gigantic spread umbrella.
a. There is the Oregon Spread.
b. There is the Run and Shoot Spread.
c. There is the Louisiana Tech (tony franklin spread).
d. There is the Nevada Spread.
e. There is the Georgia Tech/ Cal Poly/ Army Spread.
f. There is the West Coast Spread.
In each of the above mentioned, a coach has a choice to take what elements they want from one or from all and piece them together into a spread scheme. What I am so frustrated with is that people seem to think that Shay Smithwick Hann is ill conceived at running the spread. NO HE ISN’T. He is not the best player to run zone read, which isn’t a spread concept but rather a specific run play. People were immediately anointing Gustafson to be the next quarterback and saying the Rosenbach was or would have to move out of the spread.
Bull crap. There are no pre requisites for any position on the field for the spread in a generic sense. Because the offense can do whatever you want it to do. Spread is a choice of an offensive coordinator on how to deploy his resources. He can recruit to fill those needs. The UofM would be good to readdress what elements of the spread they would choose to run with SSH in there. But for petes sake, it isn’t the damn spread that is the problem here. The UofM had two very inexperienced quarterbacks running an offensive scheme that is not easy to run. But if you think that everything comes natively to quarterbacks, then I have some ocean front property in Arizona for you.

I think that what I've seen out of Adam suggests he could run this offense well, be it the more bastardized Oregon spread we ran up until the UND game or the Urban Meyer/Utah/FL/OSU spread we ran after it. I think he can excel in both, if given the opportunity and time.

We saw that he can run the zone-read pretty well against ISU, that was a good read and a great TD run.

WTF????????????????? I would think so!!! But u would have to ask the coaches, who coached us to a 5-6 record, and still no progress at the QB spot why?? After one full season, and three Qbs, and a losing record, and pretty questionable QB play, why only two of the three saw the field? AB was a good runner(not as good as Trent), AB was a passer(maybe not as good as Shay????), but the combination to me would have probably made him the best QB we had this year that never saw the field?? MAYBE IT WAS HIS GRADES, BECAUSE HE DID TRANSFER FROM STANFORD????????????????? Lame Duck Coaches in my opinion?

Did he really say that Adam B wasn't as good a passer as SSH? Well if true that explains why he didn't see the field.

I think he was actually questioning if that was the reason that AB didn't see the field.

Was really hoping to see A.B. or McKinney get some snaps too. SSH was not a threat to run the ball at all, so that really limited what we could do once the Cats just started focusing on stuffing our RB and not respecting the QB as a run threat.

Not sure why neither of them didn't get any snaps. What we were doing on offense was not working. The fourth quarter especially was downright awful.
1st quarter: 3 Drives, 20 plays, 171 yards (1 missed fg, 1fumble, 1 TD)
2nd quarter: 4 Drives, 21 Plays, 43 yards (4 punts)
3rd quarter: 4 Drives, 29 plays, 120 yards (3 punts 1 missed FG)
4th quarter: 3 drives, 13 plays, 9 yards (3 punts)

From what I saw both SSH and McKinney were pretty similar on short and medium passes...some good, some bad... and neither did very well with the long ball. McKinney at least was a run threat though.

As for Breczek, we never really got a good chance to see what he could do with his arm, so who knows.

Oh well, maybe we'll see him get a shot next year, or see McKinney make good progress in his accuracy on long balls like C.B. did years ago, or JJ did last season towards the end of the year.

No!!! What he said was that he is a better passer than Trent, and a better runner than Shay, which = why the !@#$ didnt he see the field during a 5-6 season, where our QB play was horrible, and we are trying to run a spread offense where you need a QB that does both! :thumb:

SSH's passing ability impressed no one, particularly MSU. He had no chance to push the ball down the field. It was a sin to bury Brzeczek in the depth chart.

Thank You! :thumb: Right or Wrong? We will never know because he wasnt given the chance on the field, and there was never a better season to try to experiment to make our team better!

Thanks all for the kind words.

I'Il bounce in and out of here if there is a topic that I feel like chiming in on. I have just made it my own personal policy to stay out of the cult of personality conflicts that populate this board.

You should at least post links to your blog posts, they're great.
