AD letter

Notice how he acknowledges the Griz B-Ball programs for having great leadership.(which they do)!!!!! But the only positive he has for football is that these coaches,(with talent) worked tirelessly to obtain a 5-6 losing record!!!! Wake up Haslem? We had talent for the Big Sky to finish no worse than 3rd, and to be honest, under normal circumstances, that would have been a huge disapointment! These coaches (Rosie and Mick) had a whole season, spring ball, and the summer to find and develope a qb! What happened??? They play and start to develope Trent, change their mind, way to late for Shay to do Shit, and dont even give the best combination QB on our roster a Shot??????? AB should have been given a chance, as bad as the others performed?? And to be honest, after one whole season, we are more lost at the QB spot than before the season started???? These coaches wasted a whole season, without developing one of the three Qb"s we had! They should have played all three and found the best one, or developed Trent to be the future QB!! WTF!! Come on Haslem, we need progress, even if we are not winning??????????????????

No stubbins, but ALOT of people on here think this staff came after Pflu was fired. But I will say this, when you look at Pflu's quotes on Rosie back when he was hired, he does seem to suggest Rosie was going to call plays for him. But then again, ALOT of people think coaches always lie to the media so who knows.

after 6 months of hangin with Pflu, and a full spring and fall practice schedule, he may have been able to....but I'd bet my left nut that if things were going this badly, Pflu would've taken over the play calling for the rest of the season and give Rosie another season of watching and learning.

It'd be very interesting to be a fly on the wall in the locker room this year...to see what the fuck was really going on. Who was calling the shots on the schemes? Who was calling for the starting rosters? Inquiring minds want to know....

Maybe a dumb question but what would motivate engstrom or williams to ruin the athletic dept? It seems quite obvious that its a cash cow. It seems obvious it helps with enrollment. They're own advancements would come into question if they were in fact such small thinkers and hurt the athletic dept. in some kind of "conspiracy." What in fact would they accomplish?

Many in academia get very jealous of the athletic programs receiving money and attention etc etc. Call it ego, or nerds getting flashbacks to wedgietown. It happened at Colorado back in the day. Engstrom is probably puffing his chest out with all his academia buddies telling them how he's taking down the program. Many of you will call bullshit. But I have a sister that's a college professor. Trust me the anger and jealousy happens.

We know this, but FB produces money, money talks and can leave.

I said no to this douche bag of an ad. What happened? Everyone started shit talking me. And this shit happened multiple times this year. People crap talkin me before the resuslts then saying the same shit I did after the results. God this place is great.
Dude, go back to momma's basement!
Well aren't you hilarious.. Moving on now..

As to why a President would downgrade athletics, academic types generally have huge egos and they are jealous of athletic departments who are getting all kinds of money which they think should be used for academics instead. I would bet that Engstrom has gotten tons of pressure from his faculty to make football much less important on campus and begin to stress academics more. Seems a bit silly to try and ruin a cash cow but common sense usually does not rule in these situations. Time will tell as to the future but in the meantime MSU is sitting back and loving every minute of it as they mix academics and athletics and build theirs own Business School to boot.

Saw MSU just announced another student was awarded the Rhodes scholarship.

Unless THEY WANT a smaller university things don't add up. I mean enrollment is way down and departmental cuts are significant across the board. Besides a lot of the athletes are in fact good students. I must be really naive or Engstrom is really stupid if he wants to diminish the football program. Who hires the BOR?

Him, jean and that idiot engstrom need to take a long jump with a short rope. What a bunch of bullsh1t

I was thinking more like a 30 foot bungee jump with a 40 foot cord.

Our football team was not that bad. Our secondary was pathetic. 5 of our 6 losses we had the lead in the 4th. Coaching to blame? Sure. But Hauck wouldn't have lost those games.

it is gonna take a while to dig out of our current football funk...and the news that MD returns lands with a thud. Will see what happens in the recruiting season - followed by what transpires in spring ball. I have a sick feeling that if the status quo of 2012 remains we are on a very slippery slope.

Repeating 2012!! and expecting different results?

Keep in mind that the same coaches who coordinated recruiting last year are still on this team and Griz fans lauded last year's recruiting class as one of the best ever.

The recruiting bios always sound real good - until they have to prove it on the field. To me, that's where recruiting should be graded. Those results depend on superior coaching of course.

Be honest with yourselves fellas. The cupboard is empty compared to the other Big Sky schools and Griz teams of the past. Our coaches must upgrade their recruiting efforts or we could have many bad seasons in our future.

Yep. The energy should be spent convincing Engstrom and Haslam to funnel a respectable share of the revenue back into recruiting and facilities upgrades. Our recruiting budget just sucks.

+1 And it is starting to hurt us in a visible way

Please. Do you know any football program in which the fans do not laud the recent recruiting class as being great? We will know whether this class is a great one in 2-3 more years. Looks like we have two keepers for sure, but the rest of these kids are just a wish and a prayer currently.

Action of today by the AD should not be a surpise to anyone. President and a certain member of Board of Regents are maing the decisions and there is now no question in my mind that the intent is to de-empahsize athletics just as was the intent when I was at UM in the mid-60's. Delaney is a good guy but has no business coaching not only at age 70 but with a less than stellar record while at Western and that is his extent of head coaching experience. I have said in other posts that UM is well on its way to losing its standing as the prestige University in the State. MSU has already surpassed us in football and if allowed to continue the way things are going other athletic programs will soon be second rate to be followed by academics and the downturn will be complete. MSU has a President who not only is aggressive but she is also forward thinking and a visionary and that is certainlyh not the case with our President. Now gratned things need to be cleaned up but you do not need to decimate an entire University to accomplish that feat. There is something going on here that many of us may not be aware of, otherwise why would a President and others purposely screw up a program that has not had a losing season for many decades?? We need some straight answers.

This is an accurate post, I am afraid to say. We need to get rid of Engstrom. More important than getting rid of Delaney in my opinion.

Recruit all the talent you want. If you can't coach a lick it doesn't matter. We pretty much got it handed to us in the second half. Usually meaning we got out coached.

With Delaney leaving next year, it doesn't bode well for your recruiting. Not too many kids are going to want to go to a school where there will be a new coach next year. It makes for a very tough sell!

An assistant Grizzly football coach mentioned that there was onlyone recruit at WA-Griz for the Cat Grizzly game....wonder why so few?? ;) ;)

Don't know if what you said is accurate, but I think UM already has commits for more than half of its very few scholarships available this year (and as of a month ago there were more commits than usual at this time). UM is not having any problems in recruiting, other than it doesn't have many, or enough, schollies this year due to the small number of seniors.
