So, folks it sounds like another farce and they probably didn't do a national search.... business as usual at UM. They are down to 4 finalists....what a joke! Very, very disappointing.
I do understand those who want the new AD to be from outside. I respect that side. I honestly do not see what has been majorly wrong with the coaching and AD hires over the last 20 years?
Each AD has either maintained, or bettered GRIZ athletics. Each has done a solid job with donors, coaching hires, and revenue. In my opinion, between Football, and Mens basketball there was only 1 really bad hire, and 1 questionable hire (Kennedy and Holst).
I honestly don't care how, or who we hire. I just want an AD hire with the attitude in running clean programs, and want to take GRIZ athletics to higher levels. I think that should be critical, being I see no way, there is not more reshuffling of NCAA football. It is a matter of time, before the GRIZ will be forced to shit, or get off the pot. The time is approaching when we can no longer toe the should we, or shouldn't we line.
For me, the AD hire, will make or break Engstrom. If he goes conservative, status quo, puppet type, I will be wanting Engstrom replaced! If, he goes with a proactive go getter, Engstrom will earn some good points from me.
Right after the hire, I want to hear from Engstrom, and the new AD, what their plans are for GRIZ athletics? What are their visions with their new direction, and leadership? How much say will the new AD have in the inevitable decision when it is time to make "THE" decision again? What is he going to do in the meantime to better prepare for this decision? Will he have the balls to institute a stricter, more defined Athletic discipline procedures? How accountable will athletes, and coaches be held?
I hope we get a decision soon. I pray we get someone with some power, and be proactive, not reactive.
