Derek Buerkle reports. Riley Bradshaw is coming to play basketball for the Griz! His father and high school coach Dave Bradshaw confirmed the news today. The former Corvallis Blue Devil announced last week that he would leave the Utah State program just before the beginning of his freshman season. The point guard will still have four years of eligibility remaining when he gets to Missoula after the fall semester. Dave Bradshaw said Riley tranferred "because he said it was not a fit for him and wanted to get back home to play his career in front of friends and family."

Gonna be interesting to see if and how Tinks arranges for a scholarship for Riley, especially if Cherry has to redshirt.
Glad you're a Griz, Riley!

I'm never going to complain about a Montana kid suiting up (or trying to...had to through this in for the haters) for the team.

We need more Class A kids in the mix.

This is awesome. I am sure he will get financial aid through this school year. Not so sure how they will work him in for a scholarship next year, unless someone leaves or they backs out of a scholarship. Good to hear he wants to play at home, for friends and family.

He left the area for the atmosphere and winning tradition at Utah State. At least that was what we heard when he announced his decision. Welcome back Riley.

I remember shaking my head (sideways, not up and down in agreement) when he committed out-of-state.

I'm glad he came to a better decision quickly once he arrived in Utah. He should turn out to be a pretty good player... He'll sit out this season, and what he figures the first 8 games of 2013-2014 season.

Sounds like no scholarship, and he won't start playing until January 2014:

A day after citizens across the country were faced with the question as to who should lead the nation, former Corvallis basketball standout Riley Bradshaw chose to make public a major decision he recently made.

Bradshaw has decided to take his talents to Missoula, where he’ll join the men’s basketball program at the University of Montana, the 6-foot-2 guard told the Missoulian on Wednesday afternoon.

Bradshaw began the school year as a freshman at Utah State under coach Stew Morrill, who was head coach at Montana from 1986–1991.

But Morrill announced Oct. 30 that Bradshaw had left the Aggie basketball program and would transfer elsewhere after the completion of the fall semester.

“I just got down here and it wasn’t really a great fit for me and I was lucky enough to realize it early,” Bradshaw said Wednesday. “I really was blessed. I talked to (UM) Coach (Wayne) Tinkle after I got my release here and he was great about everything. He wanted me there and that’s why I wanted to get back, come home and play in front of friends and family and get back to the state.”

NCAA rules prohibit Tinkle from commenting on a potential non-scholarship athlete joining the Grizzlies, but Tinkle previously made a scholarship offer to Bradshaw following his sophomore season at Corvallis.

In his prep career for the Blue Devils, Bradshaw was a three-time Southwestern A Most Valuable Player and a first-team, all-state selection three times. As a senior, Bradshaw averaged 24.1 points, 7.1 assists, 6.2 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game.

After starting school at Montana in January, Bradshaw said he’ll be able to practice with the team, but won’t be allowed to begin his four years of collegiate eligibility and play in games for a full year. Bradshaw believes he’ll have to sit out the first eight games of the 2013-2014 season before he’s cleared to play.

Regardless, Bradshaw is anxious to join a Grizzly program that boasts a 2011-12 Big Sky Conference championship, two appearances in the NCAA tournament the last three seasons and a 13-game winning streak over conference foes.

“First off, I’m very excited to get back and try to help,” he said. “What the Griz are doing right now, obviously they have a great tradition. I’m really excited to get back and play for coach Tinkle and be with the guys as soon as I get back.”

Though he had contact with other schools after choosing to leave Utah State, Bradshaw said there was little doubt in his mind he would eventually end up wearing Montana’s maroon and silver.

“I did talk to a few other schools,” he said. “But right as I transferred I knew I just wanted to get home. When I got my release here, my intentions were to go home. More than anything, I’m just excited to get back and get started with practice.”

Word from Logan is that he got an underage drinking ticket. If true, not sure if this factored into his leaving the USU program or not.

Thanks for posting that article Grizbeer. I was wondering how the transfer rule would work with him leaving USU when he did.
This works out really good for us too! We get another in-state kid and it gives Tinkle a real good look at him before deciding on giving him a scholorship or not. In the spring of 2014 we should have 3 open scholorships (Jamar, Hutchison and Coleman) so that will be a much better time to give him one than now.

He'll make a great PG at UM-Western in two years, just like his idol Sam Riddle. Welcome to the Griz! (for now)

ya but your hip-hop movement amongst the team just increased 10-fold..

Too bad the Cats suck in basketball or he might have chosen to play for them. Huse only called him at least twice a day once the release was official.

And you are an idiot. Have you ever played a minute of basketball in your life?

And you continue to be an a**.

I'm sure as soon as a scholly is available he'll get one. It's never a bad thing to have good guards in college basketball and the Griz have a bunch. After Cherry is gone, we'll have Bradshaw, Gregory, DeShields and incoming 3 star recruit Mario Dunn.

Dunn is a blur and shows a great ability to distribute, disrupt on D and can score.

Bradshaw and Gregory are dead-eye shooters who have good size but can also pass. Bradshaw is a particularly good play maker when he wants to be.

DeSheilds is solid all the way around and is developing into an elite defensive player.

The future is bright, and the rich just got richer. It will be interesting to see how Riley competes and where he fits with an already stacked lineup of young, athletic guards.

I am sure Riley will be a GRIZ 4 years and exceed your expectations. For this one post, your screen name will be changed around a little bit. "Sickdic"
