Abandon the wildcat

Seems like the wildcat with Wortham has been figured out. Why not have Wortham run the option. Have him option off the defensive end and either keep or pitch to Gilman. If the DE takes the pitch, then Wortham is on the edge and second level quick. If the DE takes Wortham, Gilman is 1 on 1 with a CB or Safety, I like our chances with that match up. Anything is better than the 2nd & 12 after running the wildcat.

I've been thinking all season they are just setting stuff up with it by him keeping so much. Last game if he gives it it is a TD around the corner. That said, I'd love to see a motion behind, then option the other way back where the motion came from type play.

I like the idea of having an option run out of the wildcat but coaches don't usually change up at this time in the season. Instead, we might see a few wrinkles out of it. I like a counter, that isn't a reverse sweep, off of a split zone with Shafer laying down one of his bone crushing blocks to crease the Dline.

The whole point of a read option is to read the key. Man if he hands that off it’s a big gain. It doesn’t seem like he’s actually reading his keys, just looking to make a play.

I did like our sets with all three RB’s out there, but still wish we spread them out more. So many things open up.

That's why I was wondering if it was an actual read option or more window dressing to set things up later...with an ACTUAL read option or even counter option, reverse option, etc...

I doubt it isn't already in the offense...just not used yet.

While I don't think 🤔 the wildcat is a panacea, I do think it's a valuable arrow in our quiver, there are plenty of wrinkles to run out of it as mentioned by Wolf, MN, Doc, and one more to consider--Wortham has a pretty live arm. We just might see an upcoming opponent load the box to stop a Wildcat running play, and Wortham drops a pass right over the D to a streaking Davis, Deck, Hendrix, Schafer, etc. !!! We can pass out of the Wildcat, and I have a feeling Brent has a few as-of-yet unseen plays up his sleeve just for the playoffs, including possibly for Bozeman. Bobby is on the record stating his belief that we will play MSU twice this year.

The best is yet to come.

Do you mean that the Griz should abandon the offensive formation with the player who just had 35 net yards on three carries? That doesn’t exactly sound like it’s been shut down to me.

It's not hard to figure out. KAY leaves, Wortham comes in and lines up at the WC... you know what's coming. even if Wortham lined up at RC with KAY everyone would know what's coming.

You want to take an offensive formation out of the playbook that has been successful all year….when the playoffs start? You want to take the ball out of the hands of our best athlete….for the playoffs?

Let’s do this…let’s allow the coaching staff to make those decisions, not some armchair quarterback with a Cheetos addiction sitting in his parents basement to do so.

Mic drop ✌️
