Hmmm, Cheney would be the new state's capital and the University of Bitterroot-Cheney would be the flagship institution of the great state Bitterroot.

Oh wait forgot about EWU and WSU in that drawing. So there would be 6 D1 universities in that mess lol

7 actually. It would incorporate Idaho, Washington State, Boise State, Montana, Montana State, Eastern Washington, and Idaho State. "Bitterroot" would probably be way in the red from the get go with 7 major state universities to support.

Following the divide then Montana State would be in the Big Horn and the only 4 year school in that State. Given the oil resources of Eastern Montana and northern Montana they would go FBS and be rolling in dough.

Antelope populations are down so we will annex Wyoming.

Why stop with just US states? Hell we might as well grab some of Canada while we are at it. I say we grab Calgary. They won't like it of course because of the whole hockey thing. Eventually they will get over it and the whole area would fit well with the tourism theme associated with Montana. If we are going to dream - dream big.

East of the divide is driving the montana economic engine almost completely. You would be diving into the economically poor state of Idaho which is still cutting budgets. Liberal Missoula is like far right Idaho somehow?

That state could not afford 4 D1 Universities. What a disaster.

So, Eastern MT is the dog wagging its Western MT tail?
No more than it's like Eastern MT. Or like Kalispell and Hamilton.

Politically, the current eastern boundaries of WA & OR would be maintained. So, that leaves Boise, Moscow, Pocatello, and Missoula. Idaho State would probably stay FCS, but UM could easily move up.

This idea isn't solely for a move-up. That's a side issue. Just thought I'd put it out on this board. One or two good points made out of the dross. :roll:
