A Sneak Peak at 2025

Perhaps, it is related to the injury.
He has already used that medical shirt, too. :(

Maybe they could argue for another year due to the weird Covid eligibility, but this is his 6th season and 7th year at Missoula. I don't know that there is more eligibility to finagle for him.

Trust me, I'm rooting for you to be right on this!

Its already a done deal.

In honesty, this thread illuminates the problem here more than anything else.

I believe the coaches are good coaches. They didn’t just forget what to do. The problem is talent.

The players just aren’t as good as last year, and the depth is worse. In fact, the depth makes next year look frightening. The problem isn’t scheme, or coaching, the problem is a distinct lack of athleticism and talent. Sure, the transfer portal *might* give you a one year fix, but the HS recruiting is bad. Is it bad evalulations? Lack of ability to connect? Lack of ability to develop? I’m really not sure, I just know the HS recruiting isn’t what it used to be, and it’s glaringly obvious.

Yep. Kind of the point I was attempting to make. We see (this year) how the "plug holes with transfers" strategy works. And the answer is "Not very well". Especially when you're plugging SO MANY holes because of an unbalanced roster or poor recruiting. That's why when someone says "This isn't on the coaches...they can't go out there and execute", well I beg to differ. It IS on the coaches. THEY brought in these guys, and if these guys can't go out and execute THAT is on the coaches and their evaluation of the athleticism and talent levels.

I mean, sure. If that bears out, I'm with you. But I don't think we look that much slower than everyone else. I will say that I don't understand our lack of size/depth on the interior dline, but other than that, if they turn some things around starting now and have a great rest of the year, we are going to be looking at our depth and recruiting VERY differently than right now, when things look the darkest.

Defense was never going to be what 2023-2024 was. However, I believe just cleaning up a few fundamental mistakes will see this defense make huge strides. Tackling and backend coverage are the biggest areas of cleaning up in my view. I believe the tackling issues are because of some of the young talent that is still understanding the speed of the game at this level ( will clean up with more reps), and I believe the coverage isn't necessarily a talent issue, but miscommunication in what coverage they are playing. I am assuming that there are certain check calls made by the safeties for different formations. I have a feeling some of this is what is happening in the back end. These are 2 things that are easy to clean up and will improve the defense tremendously and will help getting off the field on 3rd downs. Better tackling will help keep offenses behind the chains.

Just my thoughts. long time lurker, new poster

Boy I hope you are correct!

We have nowhere near the talent to play press coverage. This has been proven nearly every week. The coach's primary responsibility is to put players in a position to do their job within their skill set.

I am not advocating for playing press coverage. I agree with you. not many teams have the talent in those positions at this level to play press man. I was only stating that communication on the backend could be a problem for the big plays and getting off the field on 3rd down. I am not trying to argue with you at all, but I know all defenses have coverage checks for different formations. I was only speculating that there could be some miscommunication problems from safety to corner. Maybe scheme has too many moving parts for young players, and transfers. All speculation, but nothing matters if tackling doesn't get fixed

Bobby owned up to it in the coaches show last night and said it was on him. He felt Weber wouldn’t throw as much as they did and it was his call to play a lot of man and he felt his guys were up to the challenge heading into the game. He acknowledged they need to give those guys some more help instead of leaving them on an island.

Take it as you will, but that’s more than I thought he would ever say, especially at this point in the season.

So, once that theory has been disproven, why not CHANGE?
