A few thoughts after WV game

1. Perimeter game is struggling offensively and defensively.

2. Coaches really have a lot of tough decisions to make as for rotation.

3. Who can step up to be a leader?

4. Why not as much penetration by Ellis, Dloughy, or anyone?

After the last few games, I definately think Chavez should be on the court more. \At least he scores consistently and rebounds. We need someone else to step up in scoring.

We need experiment with more perimeter length defensively. I would not mind seeing Swift, Dloughy, Chavez, Hasquet, Strait on the court at the same time, just to see if that combo would address some perimeter length. Key would be Swift able to run PG. When we do go small, can we try pushing the ball more maybe? Why are we not running any traps yet? The last few years, most everytime Dloughy trapped at half court many turnovers were forced. Is Ellis hurting? He is not trying many picks, which is his strength.

At least there is plenty of time to figure things out. I believe we have the staff and coaches to have a great season, just not starting out as quickly as expected!!!!!!!!

Lets put this game behind us and get a W on Friday against VA TECH.

I can't agree with you more. We are way to short or to slow on the perimeter. However instead of Swift I think Rundles could handle a little better. I like the rest of the group though. Rundles, Doughly, Hasquet, Chavez, and Stait. Bench: Ellis, Swift, Chase,Martin, and Sharp. Thats all!!!

I agree that Rundles has the talent to be very good. He just has some battles with turnovers, which is common for a FR PG. Later in the year, he may be the best suited for it.

I still like how you think. He is young and will make mistakes. I love swift but just like alot of guys he hasn't seen the court any more than Rundles has. But Rundles is a true point and Swift is the perfect two, but we need Doughly's length and exeriance if were going long on the perimeter. Ellis is awesome but we need a threat, however we don't stand a chance agianst the major's without a guy like Ellis on the floor, Quick and a Floor General!

My biggest problem with Rundles is not his offense, but his defense. While I have only seen him play once, he was getting beat on defense every time by his opponent. Very poor footwork, and he gets in the air on every fake, thus, getting beat easily.

Al McGuire said this often:

"The BEST thing about a freshman is they will be a sophomore."

I agree. Rundles seems to have a lot of talent and potential, but I was surprised how many times he was beat on defense. He's obviously quick enough to keep up with the guys he's guarding, he just needs to concentrate on what he's supposed to be doing.
