unfortunately, speaking truth to power is usually a no-win situation, no matter what the level, from the guy who makes french fries at mickeyd's to this guy, warning that the shuttle mission could wait a day,

Actually, it’s the opposite of the Peter Principle. This guy was too competent to be in charge. The clowns who overruled him, though, epitomized the Peter Principle. You gotta stand for something or you’ll fall for anything.

I was referring to the management classifications under which he toiled. I sacrificed clarity for brevity.
