#88 Shaw saved a touchdown today

I almost forgot about the blocked punt after the first Griz drive. If you watch the replay, #47 on the Cats picks up the blocked ball and had an entourage of 5 players. Shaw was the only Griz in position to make a play. He actually takes a shove from one of the blue men but persists and makes a touchdown-saving tackle. Way to go!

Our special teams play almost killed us today. Great D, solid O, ST, not so much.

Good thing he's as big as a small condo.

Didn't have to watch the replay. There is no doubt in my mind (live) he prevented 6 for The Cats. I was thinking when he made the stop someone here had mentioned that he needed to loose weight. What else does a punter need to do other than punt and make an occasional save?

That was a fantastic play by Shaw. It still baffles me that 5 bobcats weren't able to block one man (the punter mind you). Granted Shaw does breaks the stereotype of the small, weak, and feeble punter.

I had been thinking of posting this too. Almost a play of the game. On replay, Shaw makes a good tackle, and there are 5 Cats and not other Griz in the photo. Saw a TD. Seemed slow on getting his kick off (and I thought that before it was blocked), but, on replay, it was a missed block on the left plus a nice play by Daly that allowed the block.

Does Daly do punt coverage normally, and does he come from the offensive left, or was this a play the Cats set up based on video?

Shaw is never fast in getting the ball off, but it was a high snap which might have made him even a little slower and Daly was coming that time. He was not every time.

The snap was high and Daly came into the punter untouched.. no one picked him up.

One of the fastest rushers in the country untouched into a high snap! Yup a block is going to happen. Shaws tackle was solid. Shaw has been one of the most crucial players on the team in my eyes all season.

We were very lucky that 88 made that play. 44 left too early and didn't touch Daly. Very fixable mistake though. However, O-Lineman on punt team scares me. Not to be too negative towards specific players but 73 and 78 hurt us on that run back for a TD. I'd put linebackers in those spots to improve the speed and tackling should the returner get loose.

This is when a 260 punter comes in handy, now why didn't the kid make the tackle on Johnson's return? LOL
