Wow, talk about some quick scoring. A High School team in Kansas put up 72 on its opponent in the 1st quarter. And check out the season scoring 640-0. Yikes.

SMITH CENTER, Kan. (AP) - Smith Center scored 72 points in the first quarter of a high school football game Tuesday night on the way to an 86-0 win over Plainville, according to a report in the Salina, Kan., Journal.

Smith Center forced six turnovers in the first quarter as it racked up what is believed to be a record for points in a quarter by a high school team, the paper reported. The previous record was 66 by Prescott, Ariz., in 1925.
The defending state champion has outscored its opponents 640-0 so far this season, including a 69-0 win over Plainville earlier this year.

Uh, these guys ever hear of playing the scrubs?

Apparently the coach took his offensive starters out half way through the 1st quarter, and the starters on D out before the half. And then told his kids if they are about to score to just run out of bounds at the 5. This happened twice and they kicked a field goal on 1st and goal. I don't blame the coach really. Some stuff can get out of hand really fast. Defensive scores, runs that break open, etc. It's not like they were going for it on 4th and short. Plus, they only threw the ball 1 time the entire game.

Things can get out of hand quick in high school ball, where the talent level isn't always equal. This is why I like the 35 point rule Montana has for A, B and C football, where the clock runs continuously in the second half, as long as the point differential is 35+ points.

I thought I read that Kansas has a simlar rule, but it is something like 40 point lead until the running clock starts
