7 Days until the end .......

Mslacat

Well-known member
........ of the spring signing period. Any news on one of the greatest Griz recruiting class ever.

i suppose, if you put the right spin on it, you can make the case this is already one of our great recruiting classes. we've got size (selvig and qvale), a three-star recruit (selvig), two jaycee guys with potential, and one of the top montana kids (hurley) as a walk on. if selvig and qvale both live up to their potential, this will already have been a great class.

still, the wizard of oz running the hype-machine at the rumor mill suggested something even bigger in the works, and i guess that's what we're all waiting for. something tells me that for each day that goes by, that prospect dims.

Msla cat who did the cats recruit? Are you happy with the new recruits? Did they fill the holes they needed to?
Thinking of how good coach Huse will be once he gets all "his" guys scares the hell out of me!

I suspect that when the dust clears, the 3rd "recruit" could still be a D1 transfer. I'm pretty sure that was the primary plan at one time. If that's the case, whoever it is will have to sit out a year.

I would tend to agree, especially because no one else on your roster wants to redshirt and it will be tough to bring 15 players into battle (w/ walk-ons) every game.

I know i am off topic but had huse not gone to the cats before krysto (cant remember the spelling) left would huse or tinkle have gotten the job any input

We will never know, but I doubt it.

I agree with coyote that we will never know 100% for sure, but the handwriting on the wall was that the job was Tinkles for the taking. Not 100% but I would say 95%, also Tinkle also had the support of a lot of the Boosters.

I am very happy with our recruiting class.... so far.

Bobby Howard 6-7 Great get, has potential along with Selvig and a Weber recruit from Wyoming to be freshman of the year.

Jeff Edwards 6-10 most likely our biggest risk, project but has the physical tools to be an excellent Big Sky post, but needs a great deal of coaching.

Divaldo Mutumbo 6-9 (240) JC will start next year at center or power forward. Great catch was a stat monster in the JC not only a very physical athletic big man but was second on the team in assists and 3rd in free throw % and 2.5 blocks a game. Very agressive inside player who does not want to shoot the 3

James Hennessy 6-2 PG JC. The one risk we have is that he is coming off of knee surgery, but will have three years to play at MSU. A big physical athletic point guard (is a baseball prospect also) who played with Brian Qvale in high school and a former N. Dakota Mr. Basketball. His freshman year at jc he averaged 12 pts, 5 assists, 4 steals, 4 rebounds. In his only game last year he scored 18 points, 8 assits, 6 steal, before injuring his knee in the third quarter. Qvale earlier this year called him the best point guard he ever played with in high school or AAU.

I think we will sign one more player in the next couple of weeks.

Of the 41 highschool and JC's prospects that the Griz were know to be interested in 7 are still open, and a couple of those I doubt the Griz are really interested anymore (grades, boarder line D-2 players).

I really think they are tring to sign a D-1 transfer.

Plater is still open, though.

i bet you're right, mslacat. what amazes me is, the secrecy continues despite your multiple missoula connections and sources.

here's what i think is going on.

beginning with kennedy in basketball and hauck in football (and continuing with krysko and tinks) montana seems to be going after players that would normally be beyond their reach. we've had some successes (most notably, joyce in football and rundles in basketball) and many failures (such as hoffenbarger in basektball who signed with minnesota.) another kid we seem to in the hunt for is michael harthun out of oregon, though he's currently listed as a four-star recruit, and one of the top 100 in the 2008 recruiting class.

in these cases, montana is usually the last option for the player, and so we have to wait till the very end to see what develops. i have a hunch that's what's going on here. it would explain the delay, and sqaure with the assumption that we're going after a grand catch.

in any event, i would happily take plater as a consolation prize. i think this kid has a lot of upside to his game.

I'm starting to think that whoever it was the Griz were hoping for has done gone somewhere else ... and now Tinks & Co. are scrambling to come up with another recruit.
