7' bench-rider

The UOP board admin has mentioned a 7' guy who was apparently conned into going to UM by Luc Longley to play for a coach who's no longer in Griz-ville and is now riding the bench. The admin says that the guy was heavily recruited by UOP and wonders if there's any way he would transfer over. We understand, of course, that as a same-level transfer, he'd have to sit out.

Do you guys know anything about this guy, and if he's really worth the effort?

Thanks.

That would be Dave Vanderjagt. Last year he hurt himself in not redshirting. He just was not ready physically for this level. This past summer he literally "hurt" himself. Not sure of the injury, but believe a broken leg. The little I have seen of him, he is an agile 7' with range. I hope as the season progressed the GRIZ find him some playingtime to see what he can do. If not, who knows you may get a shot at him.

Yep, that would be vanderjagt. He played two weeks ago against csf. Looked lost on offense, but looked good on defense.
Considering that he really wasn't able to practice a lot prior to that game due to injuries, it is understandable he would be a little lost on offense.

Now that he has had more practices, maybe the next time he plays he will be more productive on offense. How productive is hard to tell, as the guy still needs to bulk up a lot.

Thanks for the info. The injury makes the sitting more believable. It's kind of hard to start with a broken leg unless your name's Jack Youngblood.

If he's truly happy with Montana, then he should be OK. School should be the first priority of any student-athlete anyway (though we all know that it usually isn't).

BTW, is he any relation to the kicker?

Don't know about any relation to the NFL PK Mike Vanderjagt, who is from Oakville, Ontario and went to West Virginia. Dave Vanderjagt does have an older sister that plays wbb at the University of Wyoming though:
