7,213 witness an exciting game, but Griz lose a close one

I am very burned out now. That was a very energy robbing game. And that is just being a fan. Imagine how it was for the players.

Strait had a great game, but got his 4th foul too early. That may have cost the Griz the game. He scored 23 points.

Kevin Criswell scored 18 points and he was the one I wanted with the ball taking that last shot. But, Matt Martin, even though he has made those shots, missed a three pointer with just under 8 seconds (7.9 seconds). I thought he took it too early, but like Krysko said, Matt has made them before and can't blame him for it. I don't blame him for it either. I mean, he was open.

Reffing was subpar. Both coaches just about went after the refs in this game.

Well, I am just to tired to continue with this, need to burn off the stress somehow.

Conference season now is upon us next week.
It's so nice to see the Griz play a good team to end the conference season instead of the usual patsy teams they usually schedule.

Nice work Griz fans, too bad we couldn't pull it off. Sounds like a great game between two good teams. The Griz have had a great preseason and this loss will give them some things to correct heading into conference play. Now pack the house going forward like the players and coaches deserve it to be. I wish I could have been there.

It sounds like Griz basketball is back now, just like the old days. I remember when Adams field house was a mad house and opponents hated playing us. 7,200 attendence is pretty good huh? Tonight sounded like old days when I was a student and would go to the field house at 4:45pm to rush in to get a front row, floor seat for the Griz game.

Bounce back with two conference wins next weekend Griz!!! :thumb:

Fun game, but there wasn't the same excitement in the air like there was at the Stanford game, probably due to lack of students. It was a fun game, and UW-M is an amazingly talented team, I can see why these guys went to the sweet 16, I expect those guys to be in the tourneys this year again.

A few things I noticed in the game, Kevin Criswell was clutch, rock solid play, and hit the big shots when they were needed. He hit some crazy shots, esp some quick shots beyond the 3 point arc. I agree with True, if I could go back I'd want that last shot to be taken by Criswell, but hey, you can't win 'em all.

Andrew Strait was the spark the Griz needed halfway through the 2nd, he was clutch underneath, hit a lot of shots and got fouled, but didn't shoot too well on the arc, last stat I saw was 6 for 10, if I remember correctly.

Chavez played good D, Dlhouy hustled, and Virgil provided his usual extreme hussle that motivated the team to continue it's hard work.

UW-M is an amazing shooting team, their point gaurd Boo something hit 5 threes and he was gaurded tightly on most of those. The big difference was UW-M seemed to have many more 2nd chance (and 3rd chance) opportunites, in the 1st half they were just running around Hasquest and Strait.

Officiating got booed heavily and cheered heavily, so I say it balanced out, although there was a stretch where the Griz seemed to foul a UW-M player on every possession for two minutes, that was tough to watch.

Besides being outrebounded I saw the difference in a few areas, free throw shooting for one, I don't have the stats but I'll bet UW-M had more points from the line and a better shooting percentage. I know he's a freshman but there were times when Hasquest seemed a little overwhelmed, he got called for a 5 second call and missed a few shots right underneath the rim. He would play well at times, and seem a little disorganized at other times. Also Martin's last shot, it's a tough call, coach K afterwards said Matt makes those shots, and he was open, but they had set him up for a pick and roll. Matt's hustle created the turnover to get the ball back, he's an amazing ball player, just seems a little rough around the edges at times.

After the game coach K said he was almost relieve they lost, they learned a lot from this game, and the "streak" was broken so they can go into conference play with a clean slate.

I'd like to think attendance is FINALLY on the way back. It was a huge crowd, but lacked the intensity of the Stanford crowd. The students were seriously missed! Strait was the best big man on the floor and the GRIZ really missed him when he went out at the 6 minute mark (4 fouls). UW-Mil was the best team I've seen come in since at Gonzaga several years ago. The GRIZ stayed right with them and had a heckuva pre Big Sky season both in terms of hoops and academically! :thumb:

This was the first BB game I've attended since 2002, and I'm glad I went for a variety of reasons.

Believe it or not, this is a sport that I know even less about than football. But I had a very good time with VictorG, and his lovely wife (what the hell was she thinkin' when she said "I Do"?)

Anyone that doesn't make a Griz BB game, even though they don't care for the sport (like me), is doing themselves a huge dis-service. It's quite the hoot, and I plan on going again Thursday.

It's exciting, and a ton of fun.

I never found what Mung left in Sec 203 though.

Although a big thumbs down to the halftime "show" a bunch of guys playing lightning. Yep the game a lot of people played in middle school, lightning... :drinking:
