6-1, 3-1

We sure find plenty to bitch about. And me too ... except I choose not to post them

BUT: For all the "cardiac Griz" antics (some of us remember), UM now has a record of 6-1 overall ... the best in the Big Sky, BTW. And being 3-1 in conference at this stage of the season ain't too shabby either.

I say: GO GRIZ!

More wins already then last year, top 10 team, probably top 3 team in the toughest FCS conference, offense is ranked nationally, defense is ranked nationally, national player of the year candidates. This didnt happen because of some tooth fairy. I'm quite certain the coaches have something to do with it. Perhaps their strengths are not game calling, but that is only part of coaching in general.

Spot on. That's the only stat that really matters, IdaGriz.

By the way, I hope you're working up your poll prediction because I'm already getting butterflies thinking about where the Griz might land next week! It's the best part of my Monday.

Agree...football isn't always pretty and you can't predict the bounces, good or bad. Move on knowing you were fortunate and keep getting better, I would say all would agree that we can get better. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

What concerns me is that the Griz have really struggled against the only two teams they've played with a pulse. Neither NAU nor Cal Poly are that good....and we got rolled by NAU and by all rights should have lost today. Sure we look good when the opponent absolutely sucks, but when they don't? All bets are off...that's not the mark of a championship team, IMHO.

So two more wins for a playoff birth right? Is it 7 wins against D-1 schools to be eligble? Now we have 5 minus the OPSU game

The Griz went into the game ranked #9 in scoring defense, giving up just 17.4 ppg. CP averaged 29.2 ppg scoring ... holding them to 14 is pretty impressive, and could move the Griz even higher in that defensive stat.

"It's complicated."

My understanding -- not something I have really researched -- those games do "count" (something to do with the expanded number of bids, auto and at-large). But now, the committee will supposedly weigh strength of schedule more ... and the OPSU game will drag that down. So I don't think there is now a hard-and-fast criteria for number of wins. But ... speaking practically ... a couple more wins would pretty much guarantee the Griz a bid. And three would almost certainly give UM at least one home game.

CP is easily the best team played thus far, bar none. Record is unfortunate having played 2 FBS teams. They were solid. We were very fortunate to have the win.

Our "O" struggled, kudo's to CP's "D". But our "D" played their asses off. They were on the field A LOT and played their guts out.

Last year, we found ways to lose. This game we found a way to win, GRIZZLY FOOTBALL!

I've said it a million times, "I'd rather have an ugly win than a moral victory".

As strange as it may sound, I'm sold on our team but not our coaching. :? :?

Just checked the updated stats through seven games, and the Griz are now #7 in scoring defense at 17.0 ppg. They are #26 in total defense, which is not all that bad. (As you might expect, NDSU is first in both scoring and total defense.)

BTW, if you haven't been on the NCAA stat page for FCS, here's the link: http://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fcs

this is my feeling as well. the griz play a very good team this week (and they love to come to wa-griz) with A LOT better coaching! the coaches will have to step-up their game if they want to win this week.
