4th Quarter Woes

So, has the defense been good? No.

But, does it buckle down in the 4th quarter to get the needed stops? Also no.

The last two 4th quarters:

EWU: 4 possessions, 4 TD's, 242 yards of offense
WSU: 4 possessions, 2 TD's & a FG, 190 yards of offense

And it's not because of a "gassed", D. We dominated TOP against EWU, 33:11 to 26:49, and even better against Weber, 34:55 to 25:05 (81 plays to 66).
 
I also think that clock management has not been good in the 4th quarter either. Against Weber, I was saying to my cousin we needed to bleed that clock down, preferably as close to 30 seconds as possible before scoring the go-ahead touchdown. Knowing that our defense wasn't going to be able to prevent Weber from going down the field quickly, we should have made it as difficult as possible for them by giving them as little chance as possible. We scored with 1 minute left, waaay to much time for WSU with 2 timeouts still. Sure enough, Weber got the ball and was at midfield with 30 seconds left...

I agree any amount of time left seems to be to much but telling the offense not to score or to slow down is a slippery slope...take the opportunities as they present themselves ...

That's were I would disagree. You know your defense can't stop anything, and on that drive Weber wasn't able to stop the Griz. So I'd take that risk and put the game in the offense's control. I'd rather risk the offense trying to play clock management than risk the defense trying to win the game at this point.

Well neither are good for my heart but being behind and having to score always makes me more nervous then being ahead and having to play D... yes even this year!
