Any word on Lakes alumni Marquin Russell or Caleb Lyons?

Lyons is there, he's on the roster and I think he's a WR wearing #23. The gogriz.com roster doesn't show that but someone earlier copied and pasted a roster that shows him as #23. If that's the case he missed the 2nd half of drills with a small injury. Went over and was fielding catches from the jugs machine for 30 minutes.

Marquin Russell on that same roster was supposed to be #13. I don't recall seeing a #13 on defense but I'll look when the Sunday scrimmage starts. I see he locked his twitter - someone must've pointed out some of his prior tweets. Maybe he's back? I'm not sure.

The roster posted earlier on here by another poster appears to be copied and pasted from gogriz.com as well. BW, Lyons is listed on gogriz.com as #23, but they currently don't list his position.

b/w,,,is Haynes going to be the player maker that I thought he would be and should be??? with his size and athleticism coming from high school, I thought he would be darn near unstoppable,,,,,any opinion about where he fits?

He has a load of potential, but is now a senior. He was plagued by dropped balls early on in his career and then when he appeared ready to break out he became injury prone. Not sure how many opportunities he will have with Henderson and Jones.

Still wearing a boot on his foot, hasn't practiced once. I wonder if he'll use his redshirt? He still has it.

The kicking game sounds like it still sucks if they are struggling from 35 yds out. I want to know who recruited these kickers or do they just let them all walk on. There has to be a kid out there ready to step up and kick field goals and extra points for the Grizzlies.

Surely the Griz should consider recruiting someone that can kick with some consistency. Does anyone know what the current kickers stats were in high school? Damn it, I cannot handle another season of missed fgs and pats along with more power runs on 4th down.

Recruiting is a complete crapshoot. Its not as easy as you seem to think it is. Sometimes the best kicker in HS doesn't make it in college. Sometimes kids blossom after HS. I'm sure the coaching staff is way more frustrated about it than you are and are doing their best to remedy the situation. Chill.

Yeah, with all things being considered, it's a wonder. But if I was a betting man I'd most likely, probably, put my money on: http://www.egriz.com/grizboard/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=66649" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ...if, for no other reason, he was Wyoming's main kicker half way through his freshman year and projected in being so going into his sophomore year. He may be a little bit rusty for being away from the game for a while; recovering from his medical mishap, but if he fully recovers in that area I see no reason why he shouldn't rebound to being the way he was at Wyoming. Hopefully so, at least medically.

So it's still pretty early yet, and as 'Hammer' says,., patience may reward. We might just witness another Brody McKnight type style kicker in our midst.

I'm quite intrigued by the observations of Travon Van being used in multiple sets and formations. Obviously, T.V. matched up vs a backer or a stiff strong safety is a huge advantage for us. I was wondering if he was motioning to the slot, or to Z or X ? Is he motioning out of a "two" back set to the line of scrimmage? Is he motioning across the formation? Wow... it seems someone has used their head and has decided to develop a new wrinkle to the offense. I read your post saying he was lined up at w.r... which is great, but I'm more interested in where they're moving him around to at the pre-snap look. I can see this as producing some huge gains, and manipulating the defense into predictable coverages. Any comments you can make on this in the future on this would be appreciated... :egriz:

I hope that doesn't mean what I think it means...

Yeah, I see what you are saying. My problem is that kicking an extra point should be as easy as I think (know) it is. Sure maybe not with a defense trying to block the kick and the added pressure of playing in front of a crowd. However, did these kickers struggle with pats in high school or is this something that started once they made it to college.

Maybe I took having a solid kicker for granted even though I realize even Carpenter and McKnight struggled for a while before they turned into the clutch kickers they became. Not trying to knock these kickers either, just expressing my concern and frustration so let's just sit back and watch one or more of them prove they have what it takes to kick for the Montana Grizzlies. I would really still like to see some stats on these kickers from high school though.

The funny part about this discussion is that Snyder was probably better than any of them but couldn't get a break in the NFL.

Speltz just did a big write up on him playing WR. He will line up as the Z, usually does not start in the backfield but split out. Haven't seen him as a slot WR yet.

Danny Sullivan was the Associated Press First Team All-State Place Kicker for Class 4A his senior year, in the State of Washington. Was the University of Wyoming Cowboy's place kicker half way through his freshman year; projected in being their main place kicker entering his sophmore year.

8 for 10 on FGs, longest of 49, 43 for 44 on PATs his senior year of high school.

6 for 9 on FGs, longest of 46, 52 for 54 on PATS his junior year.

5 for 8 on FGs, longest of 42, 40 for 42 on PATs his sophmore year.
