4th and 2

Does anyone have video of this play (not that you want to relive it) I have heard a ton from my griz friends and have not seen it.

I have followed this game as a player, a little grizzly coach, a closet analyst and a fan for over 40 years and I have never ever seen a coverage team do what the Grizzlies did yesterday! Even playing pickup games when I was seven we were never that stupid! The two times they ran that formation on punt coverage cost the Grizzlies 10 points. The first on the fumble on the 7 yard line the second on the field goal in the 4th.

If any of you has a clue as to what the hell they were doing or attempting to do, I'd appreciate your comments. My assumption is that this was some lame attempt to establish a new run back blocking scheme. But if that's the case they should have learned from the first time they ran it that it was not going to work. You could see the SUU punter look at all the open space in front of him and change his mind. That 100 year old woman who celebrated her birthday yesterday could have made the first down!

This has nothing to do with how old or inexperienced the players are. This was idiotic coaching pure and simple. I won't say that it cost the Grizzlies the game, but it sure as hell didn't help.

I had this conversation with a gentleman leaving the game. I asked him how long he had been watching football and he answered, "45 years". I asked him if had ever saw anything like what just happened on that punt. He replied, "hell no, and there is a reason no one else has ever done that before".
Complete screw up decisions like the double kick-off decision against Northern Colorado and the fall back 5 yards and save equipment decision against SUU on the punt are real obvious to the average football fan. I am getting real nervous about the real X's and O's that are taking place before, during and after the game that the average fan does not know about and that we are just flat getting schoolled on right now.
In the Sunday Missoulian, the SUU coach was quoted as saying their special teams coach had noticed an opportunity to take advantage of on our field goal unit blocking scheme.....they did.
He also said that they had discussed our punt return coverage at half time and that their punter was one of the fastest kids on the team.
Our coaching staff has more catching up to do than the product we are putting on the field does right now. I can't remember ever thinking that after half, we are coming out of the tunnel with a huge disadvantage before. (halftime adjustments) We certainly are today. :cry:
The players, fans and Griz Nation expect better. I am hopeful that we see it soon.
