4th AD Candidate

I met with the last 3 candidates - I didn't see the first guy (Clapp).

Two of the three I met said they would have a close relationship with the press and would make sure that the members of the press had his private cell number. I was impressed.

The last guy is a former Alabama assistant and now is AD at Pan American U in southern Texas.

He said that the press would not have his cell number. He wants the press to deal with the Sports Information Director. He also doesn't want to be blindsided by a 2 a.m. phone call from a reporter. He said that his protocol would be to have the SID give him the facts before he then deals with the press - don't break the chain of command.

Subtle difference but I was impressed - as I was with the 3 candidates I met.

I don't mind that. That means Guffey, who is the SID, would have to work for a living.

Not being readily accessible to the press in Missoula is not going to work. It would probably get some of the reaction that Hauck got. With a new university communication person/position, and perhaps approach, coming, it will be interesting to see how press communication with the university develops and how the university communication office and the athletic department intersect and communicate.

I like this last guy too. He pretty much said what the problem was here without saying it. Putting what PR said with an ineffective SID and everybody dealing with the press willy-nilly and communications director who's primary job was to put out fires we get to where we are today....
