Don't know your history at all but I'm curious why or how someone would "hate" Oregon State? That's like being mad at Nescafe instant coffee, sure it's terrible but when would that ever matter?
Here’s the Cliff Notes version: While getting my degree as an officer candidate I attended a certain college in the NW that participated in a thing called Northwest Navy Competition (an “Olympics” style set up attended by the ROTC units of UW, Idaho, Oregon State and Utah) and held on a rotating basis at one of the 4 campuses each spring. There were a number of events (shooting, basketball, PFT, water polo, etc., etc.). I was on the pistol team and basketball team. There was great camaraderie amongst all the schools—except Oregon State. All three of the other schools would root for and applaud great play or shooting—except Oregon State. All three would applaud and cheer for the winners when announced—except Oregon State.
Three quick stories on their version of “sportsmanship”:
We had the best pistol team of the 4–we won when it was held at Utah…we won when it was held at UW. The year the competition was at Oregon State, they made sure we were first on the range, at 0700. Oh, and they conveniently neglected to turn the heat on, so it was about 40 degrees in the indoor range building. Try shooting when you’re literally shivering. We finished second—to OSU.
We always had a really crappy basketball team (you KNOW it’s crappy when I played  ). I mean, so bad that not one of our starters could have started for OSU—like D-league rec-league level bad. They had a really good team, complete with the actual OSU men’s team’s uniforms. They were beating us by about 40 late in the 3rd quarter and still had all 5 starters in, shooting 3’s.
Each year one school is awarded the “Admiral’s Cup” to the team that performed the best, and showed the best sportsmanship. It usually went to the host school. The year it was at OSU, it went to UW. The entire OSU contingent of Middies got up and walked out when it was announced—IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DINNER RECEPTION—with the admiral and their commanding officer sitting at the head table. Their CO got up, went out and got them and made them file back into the room in single file, past the head table and each personally apologize to the admiral for the disrespect.
I’ve carried that hatred for 35 years.
I f###[#] hate OSU.  And STILL it was great to see an SEC team get rolled like that by a team coached by an ex-Griz coach.
